Some wishes are simple. Some are unforgettable.
Today, one of our residents received a visit from someone she's always adored—ELVIS!! For a woman whose heart beats to the rhythm of music, this was more than a performance. It was pure joy.
As the songs began, she sang along, smiled from ear to ear, and for those moments, nothing else mattered except the music and the happiness it brought her.
Witnessing her reaction was everything. It's days like today when what we do fills our hearts beyond capacity. Hospice care isn't about counting the days. It's about filling the days with meaning, connection, laughter, and love. It's about helping people continue to experience the things that make them feel most alive.
Today, Elvis was in the building, but even more importantly, so was joy. ❤️🎵

People often think hospice is only about endings.

But this weekend at Eagle Raceway, hospice looked a whole lot like dirt flying, engines roaring, adrenaline pumping, and one man living out a dream.

David has always loved racing. While he’s spent years participating in rally cross events, he had never experienced the thrill of a modified race — until Saturday night.

Thanks to the incredible support of the St. Croix Hospice team, David was able to trade the sidelines for the driver’s seat. From the moment he arrived at the track, he was treated like part of the crew — suited up in a fire suit, fitted with his very own racing helmet, and fully immersed in the pits.

And when it came time to get him into the car? Let’s just say it was pure Dukes of Hazzard style.

With family and friends cheering him on, David hit the track with a smile that said everything. For a few unforgettable laps, there were no limitations, no diagnoses, and no barriers — just the rush of the race and the joy of the moment.

That’s what hospice is really about.

It’s about helping people continue to LIVE. To laugh. To dream. To experience joy, purpose, excitement, and connection right up until the very end.

End-of-life wishes are not impossible. Even for a man who has spent much of his life as a quadriplegic, there were still dreams waiting to be fulfilled and memories left to make.

Saturday night wasn’t about dying.
It was about living life to the fullest.

And David did exactly that. 🏁❤️

As we close out Nursing Week, we want to take a minute to thank all of our nursing staff who day in and day out show up for those we serve. You are there for our residents, our families, and each other during some very difficult times, and your hard work does not go unnoticed.

Working in “Heaven’s waiting room” takes a very special kind of person. It takes compassion, patience, strength, grace, and a heart willing to walk alongside others through some of life’s most sacred moments.

Thank you for the comfort you provide, the dignity you preserve, the laughter you share, and the love you pour into our residents each and every day. We are deeply grateful for all that you do.

Happy Nursing Week to our everyday heroes. 💚

The last two days we spent learning, living and loving what we do in end of life care at the Nebraska Hospice and Palliative Care Association annual conference... Surrounded by all the people who day in and day out, love on those at end of life was both powerful and inspiring ❣️

Our sweet Volunteer Joy Allen was awarded the 2026 Outstanding Volunteer Award! Joy has been a faithful Volunteer at The Grace Space since her dad passed away about a year ago. She is so deserving of this award as she shows up with smiles and love for everyone each time she visits! Thank you Joy for loving on those we serve as well as their families and our staff❣️

Update on Todd 🤍
So many of you have reached out to see how Todd is doing.

Todd has successfully completed his acute rehabilitation journey! He is now working on strengthening and relearning how to walk and he walks short distances with a cane and support from his caregivers. He has been working hard at his speech therapy and saying more words.

He has now moved on to continue his healing journey, and we are so hopeful for all that is ahead.

His strength, persistence, and positive attitude continue to carry him through what he calls the “hard” work.

We have witnessed so much grace throughout this journey. God has truly carried him, and we feel incredibly blessed to have been even a small part of his miracle.

We are all rooting for you and praying for you, Todd! 🌿

Today we honor End of Life Doula Day 🤍

An End of Life Doula is a compassionate guide who supports individuals and families through the end-of-life journey. Much like a birth doula helps usher in life, a death doula helps hold space as life comes to a close—with presence, comfort, and care.

They offer emotional, spiritual, and practical support—helping people navigate difficult conversations, honor final wishes, create meaningful moments, and ensure no one feels alone.

We’re especially grateful to have two death doulas on our team—Kaleigh and Kelly—who have pursued additional training to serve as end-of-life doulas, bringing this deeply meaningful support to those we walk alongside.

Death doulas remind us that dying is not just a medical event—it’s a deeply human experience that deserves dignity, connection, and peace.

NHCA Learning and Curriculum Development Manager Connie Siefkes and Learning Systems Manager Eric Alloway recently visited NALA member The Grace Space to discuss collaboration opportunities with the Nebraska Health Care Learning Center, NHCA’s private postsecondary career school.
