Dwight M. Gould, 92, of Linton, Indiana, went to Heaven with family by his side, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at Autumn Trace Assisted Living in Linton. He was born in Lyons, Indiana on September 22, 1933, to Asel Benjamin and Cecil Mae (Stewart) Gould. Dwight married the love of his life, Janet Joan (Bedwell) Gould on April 19, 1955.

Dwight was a US Army Korean War Veteran. He was a member of the Pleasantville Community Church, where he formerly served as a minister for 19 years. He also worked at Citizens Gas Corporation, retiring with 35 years of service. Dwight enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

Family left to cherish the memory of Dwight includes two daughters, Renea (Mark) Borgmeier of Van Wert, OH and Joan (Tim) Cork of Terre Haute, IN; two grandchildren, Jeff Borgmeier and Amy Smith; five great-grandchildren and one sister, Patty Ann Watts of Linton.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet Gould; four brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Abram Beck officiating. Dwight will be laid to rest in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Dugger. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #22 of Linton.

Family and friends may call from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.

Sara Lynn Smiley, 64, of Odon, Indiana, passed away in the morning hours of May 31, 2026 at her home after many years of failing health. Born April 13, 1962 in Linton, Indiana, to Tommy B. and Sally A. (Hughes) Crecelius.

Sara was a graduate of Switz City High School, Class of 1980. She retired in 2014 after 30 years of dedicated service at Crane Army Ammunition Activity Base. During her career, she had many accomplishments and was a hard worker. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

On November 11, 2000, she married the love of her life, Steven D. Smiley, and he survives. They met while working at Crane. Together, they have one daughter, Olivia (Matthew) Findlay, of Odon. She is also dearly missed by her beloved grandchildren, Angus and Lola Findlay. Known to them as ‘Maw’, she loved spending time with her family, watching her favorite tv shows, cooking, yard work, painting and going on vacations with her family.

She is also survived by her sister, Lori Fulcher of Washington; her mother-in-law, Ginny (Leroy) Shafer of Odon; sister-in-law, Diana (Mike) Fesler of Newberry; brother-in-law, Brian (Susan) Smiley of Odon; nephew, Kirk (Eden) Crecelius of Petersburg; niece, Lexi Crecelius and her son, Zayn of Jasper; aunts, Connie (Gary) Scott and Susie (Ted) Soliday, both of Lyons and bonus aunt, Betty Sutton of Odon.

Sara was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John Crecelius and father-in-law, Larry Smiley.

Funeral services to honor the life of Sara will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 5, 2026 at Meng Family Funeral Home in Odon with Rev. Bradley Rainey officiating. Sara will be laid to rest in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Odon.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 4 and from 9:00 AM until the hour of service at 10:00 AM on Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Mary L. Wright, 81, of Freelandville, Indiana, formerly of Sandborn, Indiana, went to Heaven, on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Indiana. She was born on November 28, 1944, in Sandborn, Indiana to John Henry and Mary Emily (Newkirk) Asher. Mary married David W. Wright on June 27, 1971.

Mary was a member of the Sandborn Baptist Church. She worked at Crane Naval Base and KCARC, retiring in 2009. She enjoyed playing the piano and crocheting.

Family left to cherish the memories of Mary include two sons, Donald Asher of North Carolina and Mark (Karen) Wright of Virginia Beach, VA; four daughters, Jean (Marty) Satterthwaite of Lawrenceville, IL, Diana (Carroll) Branton of Suffolk, VA, Cyndy (Alan) Rice of Virginia Beach, VA and Sherry August and (Ken) of North Carolina; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sharon Compton of Florida and Beth (Joe) Thompson of Linton.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David Wright; two daughters, Patricia Henry and Audra Wright.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM EST on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Danny Hillenburg officiating. Mary will be laid to rest in Sandborn Cemetery.

Rev. Hurshel Delmer Hale, 94, of Dugger, Indiana, went to Heaven with loved ones by his side, on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Sullivan County Community Hospital. He was born at home, located way back in the Appalachian Mountains near Mt. Vernon, Kentucky to James and Effie (Hale) Hale. When Hurshel was around 14 years old, his family moved to Lebanon, Indiana when his father, searching for a better life, got a job as a machinist. Hurshel married Patricia Ann (Kincaid) Hale on May 23, 1952. After her passing, he married Paula Jane (Ulrich) Hale on July 2, 2017.

Hurshel accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 18 at an Assemblies of God service in Lebanon and has followed Him since. With the support of his young wife, Patricia, at the age of 19, he enrolled in Oklahoma Bible Institute, Pentecostal Church of God Fellowship, completing the course requirements in one year. From there, he pastored Pentecostal church of God in Lebanon, while all the time furthering his Christian education by correspondence. He earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in biblical counseling and later was given an honorary Doctor of Theology because of the biblical knowledge acquired through personal studies and a lifetime of service.

Rev. Hale with his wife, Patricia, pastored seven different churches in Indiana and Tennessee and he served as district superintendent of the state of Tennessee for Pentecostal Church of God. After serving there, they moved to Linton, Indiana and he obtained a license and received ordination with Assemblies of God, pastoring with that fellowship there until retiring after 66 years in the ministry.

Hurshel was a member of the Lyons Assembly of God. He worked as a coal miner with Peabody Coal Co., retiring after 28 years of service. He and Paula enjoy their little dog, Queen, the country life of gardening and lawn care at their home.

Family left to cherish the memories of Hurshel include his wife, Paula Jane Hale; two daughters, Cheri (Charlie) Stephens and Pam (James) Marshall, both of Linton; grandchildren, Kela (Kyle) Delph, Kami (Kyle) Fuller, Jennifer (Brad) Mathis, Beau (Holly) Hale, Brandon (Starr) Millick, Erik (Heather) Millick and Brittnie (Jared) Chambers; and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Hurshel was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Patricia Ann Hale; one son, Kenneth Hale; one brother and one sister.

Funeral services to honor the life of Hurshel will be at 12 Noon on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Bro. Stuart Frampton officiating. Hurshel will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Family and friends may call from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 12 Noon on Friday at the funeral home.

Gertrude L. Weaver, 95, of Linton, Indiana, went to Heaven with family by her side, on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Glenburn Home in Linton. She was born on April 26, 1931, in Westphalia, Indiana to Ernest William Carl and Frieda Johanna (Prior) Volle. Gertrude was wedded in marriage to Joseph Marczak on July 21, 1955, and from that marriage they had three children. Later in life she married Larry L. Weaver on February 26, 1998.

Gertrude was a member of the Bethel Church in Freelandville, Lyons Community Church in Lyons and Samaria Church in Dugger. She was a homemaker and cake decorator. Her hobbies were playing the piano, reading, crocheting and sewing.

Family left to cherish the memory of Gertrude include: three sons, Dennis (Kem) Marczak of Bicknell, Doug (Rita) Marczak of Linton and Daniel (Diane) Marczak of Vincennes; grandchildren, Dannica (Casey) Erickson, Shawn (Corey) Benner, Amberlee (Russ) Helm, Valerie (Jacob) Cary, Rachelle (Daniel) Trabant, Lindsey (Kyle) Mehringer, Megan (Jarrett) Griswold, and Morgan Marczak; great-grandchildren, Daymen Cox, Alyse Erickson, Pierce Erickson, Olivia Helm, Nolan Helm, Casen Benner, Melanie Cary, Levin Cary, Linkin Cary, Will Trabant, Amelia Trabant, Myah Griswold and Truett Griswold; one sister, Betty (Bob) Miller of Bicknell. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Joseph Marczak (2000) and Larry Weaver (2015); brothers, Roy (Doris) Volle, Ernie Lee Volle and Hilbert Volle; sisters, Anita (Joe) Catt and Judy (Jim) Brown.

Funeral services to honor the life of Gertrude will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Larry Weaver, Jr. officiating. Gertrude will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Nancy E. Padgett, 79, of Westphalia, Indiana, went to Heaven with loved ones at her side, on Friday, May 15, 2026, at her home. She was born on August 28, 1946, in Westphalia to Kenneth E. and Bernita Beulah (Chesnut) Bare. Nancy married the love of her life, Calvin S. Padgett, on February 9, 1963.

Nancy was a member of the Bethel Church in Edwardsport. She was a homemaker and also sat with the elderly. Nancy enjoyed her flowers, dogs and crafting, but family was her priority. She never met a stranger.

Family left to cherish her memory includes: son, JR (Julie) Padgett and daughter, Debbie Repphan, both of Westphalia; grandchildren, Jaimie Johnson, Josh Roush, Jessica Reel, Josh Messer and 10 great-grandchildren.

Wilma Jean Swartzentruber, 85, of Loogootee, Indiana, died Friday, May 15, 2026, at Daviess Community Hospital. She was born on May 8, 1941, in Montgomery, IN to Peter and Katie Ann (Lengacher) Miller. Alvin Swartzentruber took Wilma Miller as his lawfully wedded wife in February of 1961.

Wilma was a member of the Providence Mennonite Church. She was homemaker and had worked in manufacturing.

Surviving is her son, Marlin (Marlene) Swartzentruber; grandson, Alvin James Swartzentruber; granddaughters, Brooke (Darin) Raber and Taylor (Jaylen Lengacher) Swartzentruber. Brothers, Paul (Ruby) Miller, Dale (Mary Teresa) Miller, sisters, Ada (John) Kemp, Lilly (James) Fuhs, Barabara Kendrick and Joyce Kauffman. Great-grandchildren; Silas Swartzentruber, Chase Swartzentruber, Creed Raber, and Roman Raber. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Cathy Swartzentruber, brothers, David Miller, James Miller and sisters, Susie Mullet and Ruth Graber.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, May 18, 2026, at First Mennonite Church with Kevin Swartzentruber officiating. Wilma will be laid to rest in First Mennonite Church Cemetery.
