The White River Lighthouse is at the mouth of the White River on Lake Michigan near Whitehall. Construction of the lighthouse began on August 28, 1875. It was a common design used on the Great Lakes including, McGulpin Point near Mackinaw City and Eagle Harbor in the Keweenaw.

The lighthouse was deactivated in the 1960s and operates as a museum today. It is a nice place to visit and check out the artifacts and climb the tower when it is open. You may also see the ghost of a former keeper.

Spruce is a small town nestled between Alpena and Harrisville and it has its roots in the establishment of a sawmill by Don Hecox. He also took on the role of the first postmaster when the local post office opened its doors on May 5, 1898. I'm not quite sure about the story behind the chicken images displayed in the building's windows, but I find them delightful.

I saw this old school somewhere between Kingsley and Buckley south of Traverse City. I don't know anything about it but it looks like it was a nice school at one time.

The 9th Annual Good Old-Fashioned Neighborhood Corn Roast is just around the corner!

Happening 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, at Bicentennial Park, this community favorite offers an afternoon of food, fun, and fellowship.

Organizations from across Livonia will be coming together to make the event special, and many local elected officials are expected to attend. The Livonia Lions Club will once again be roasting the corn, and the Livonia Rotary Clubs will be providing drinks.

It’s a great chance to connect with neighbors, meet local organizations, and enjoy one of Livonia’s long-standing traditions.
