This past weekend, I guided our yoga teachers in training through a meditation.

"Imagine you are standing at the shore of a lake. It's small enough to see across to the other side. The surface of the water is calm and still enough that the sky and nature is reflected in its surface. Now imagine a raindrop falls. It lands on the surface, creates a reaction on the surface as it ripples out, distorting the reflection. Eventually, everything evens back out again - calm and still."

This calm, reflective surface represents your innate way of being, your resting state. The raindrops represent disturbances - feelings, thoughts, sensations in the body, sensory impressions. These things land on the surface of our consciousness, they ripple out and eventually fade.

Pema Chodron offers the same here:

"You are the sky.
Everything else, it's just weather."

Nothing lasts. Change is inevitable. Surrender is finding peace with what is and welcoming whatever is here for a short time with open arms and a grateful heart.
