Not all coping mechanisms actually help us cope. Some help us avoid the feeling for a moment… but leave us more overwhelmed, disconnected, or exhausted later.
The healthier coping skills usually aren’t the fastest fix — they’re the ones that help you recover instead of just escape. Things like talking to someone, resting, journaling, setting boundaries, moving your body, creating something, or asking for support may take more effort upfront, but they build long-term resilience instead of short-term relief.
Healing is less about finding the quickest distraction and more about finding what actually helps you come back to yourself. 💛
