Karen Sue Fraley

Karen Sue Fraley, 77, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, in the evening at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, surrounded by her family.

Karen was born on December 2, 1948, in Logan, West Virginia, to Monroe “Red” Canterbury and Crystal White Canterbury. She was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and lifelong friend to many.

Karen dedicated her life to what mattered most to her—her family. She was a full-time mom and grandmother who found her greatest joy in caring for and spending time with the people she loved. Her family was her world, and the love she gave them will continue to live on through the generations.

Karen shared a lifelong bond of companionship and friendship with her ex-husband, Cletus Fraley.

She is survived by her children, Ashley Leigh Fraley and her spouse, Ian Clausen; and Eric David Fraley and his spouse, Brandi Worley; her grandchildren, Ida “Cyerra” and Scott Coffman, Madison and Randall Pennington, Angel Gomez, and Briedon Swagger; and her great-grandchildren, Rebekah Cantrell, Paisley Coffman, Thomas Belcher, Colin Coffman, Asher Coffman, Randall “TaylorDean” Pennington, and Ivory Pennington. She is also survived by her brother, Lewis Jackson Canterbury.

Karen was preceded in death by her son, Cletus Monroe Fraley Jr.; her parents, Monroe “Red” Canterbury and Crystal White Canterbury; and her siblings, Della Runyon and Thelma Robinette.

Though her family will deeply miss her presence, her love will remain in their hearts and in the generations she leaves behind. Her memory will be carried forward through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who loved her.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2026 at the Forest Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to James Funeral Home to assist with expenses.

Darrell Nelson

Darrell H. Nelson, 75, of Logan, West Virginia, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer and heart failure. A husband, proud father, loyal friend, beloved brother, and deeply loved family member, Darrell lived a life defined by devotion, hard work, generosity, and an unwavering love for the people around him.

Born on June 24, 1951, Darrell grew up in Peach Creek, WV, a place he cherished throughout his life. The values of community, family, and perseverance shaped him from a young age. With an entrepreneurial spirit and a determination to build his own path, Darrell left school early to begin working—never afraid to try something new, never hesitant to take on a challenge.

Darrell began his working life in the cable shop alongside his older brother, where he learned the value of skill, discipline, and teamwork. He later became a coal miner, embracing the demanding work with the same determination he carried throughout his life. After his time in the mines, he transitioned to the railroad, serving as a brakeman and taking pride in the responsibility and precision the role required.

His entrepreneurial spirit led him to purchase and operate a gas station, a venture he ran with dedication and a hands‑on approach. Darrell then became part‑owner of Logan Driveshaft with his brother, contributing to the business with his characteristic work ethic and willingness to take on new challenges. Over the years, he also bought and refurbished several properties, never afraid to try something new and always eager to build something meaningful.

Darrell was the proud and devoted father of Glenn and Melinda, and loving stepfather to Angel and Jason. His grandchildren Brittany, Cody, Alexis, Stephen, Joshua, Hannah, Trey and Ethan, were the light of his life, and he adored his great‑grandchildren Alaysia, Zoey, Blake and Eastin.

His greatest joy was simply being with family, sharing stories, laughter, and love.

Darrell loved the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were not just hobbies they were traditions he shared with family and friends. He spent meaningful years in Mason County, teaching his grandchildren about nature, patience, and respect for the land.

Many will remember the orphaned deer he lovingly raised until they were strong enough to return to the herd, a testament to his gentle heart and deep connection to wildlife.

Darrell returned to Peach Creek later in life, reconnecting with the community that shaped him. He had a special place in his heart for helping others, forming lasting bonds with people who knew they could count on him. His kindness was quiet but powerful, and his generosity touched countless lives.

Darrell loved the Lord and carried a strong, personal relationship with Him throughout his life. He was one of thirteen children born to Howard and Mable Nelson. He is preceded in death by Richard, Billy, Willis, Teddy, Freddie, Willard, Kenny, Naomi, and Evelyn, and is survived by Linda, Harold, and David.

He had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to laugh, and brought joy wherever he went.

Darrell will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the community he supported, and the countless memories of a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and gave generously.

A memorial service will be held at 4 pm, Sunday, August 30, 2026, at James Funeral Home with Pastor Donnie Wells officiating. Visitation will be from 2 pm until the time of service Sunday.

Garnett Marie Frye

Garnett Marie Frye, 90 of Logan, WV, widow of Donald Frye, passed away on Tuesday August 25, 2026 peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Logan, WV on September 22, 1935 to Artha and Ernie Bias. She was a homemaker and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Lillian Hicks, Janice Szucs, Francis Sellards and one brother, Charles Bias.

She is survived by her daughter, Robin Richards (Greg )63 of Harts, WV and son, Donnie (Laura) Frye 60 of Scott Depot, WV. Three grandchildren, Casey (Jenna) Frye, Newport News, VA, Camille Frye, Morgantown, WV and Christian Frye, Scott Depot, WV.

She was a devoted member of the Logan Church of the Nazarene.

She will be remembered for her kindness, love of her church family and her greatest love, her three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday August 31, 2026 at James Funeral Home in Logan, WV with visitation from 11 am to 1 pm with the funeral service following at 1 pm. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Pecks Mill, WV.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Logan Church of the Nazarene.

Lilly Kinser

Lilly Kinser, 88, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026. She was born on March 11, 1938, in Hetzel, West Virginia, to the late Matt and Bertha Mayhorn.

Lilly was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tommy Kinser; her daughters, Lilly (Willis), Jessie, and Sue Kinser; and her grandchildren, Freddie Kinser, Paula K. Fitzgerald, Michael Carter, and Christopher Lilly.

She is survived by her children, Dana Oblogebe, Charles Kinser, Tommy (Tammy) Kinser, and Bill (Billie) Kinser. She also leaves behind Roger Buck, who was like a son to her, along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who brought her much joy throughout her life.

Lilly was a woman of deep faith who loved God and her church. Her kindness, strength, and devotion to her family touched the lives of all who knew her. She found happiness in spending time with her loved ones and took great pride in her large and growing family.

Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing that she is reunited with those who went before her and is resting in the presence of the Lord.

Lilly’s legacy of faith, love, and family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

The family asks that Lilly be remembered for the love she shared, the faith she lived by, and the many lives she touched throughout her 88 years.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Friday, August 28, 2026 at James Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11 am until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens.

Willie Denver Akers Jr.

Willie D. Akers Jr., passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, at the age of 89.

Born July 1, 1937, in Ironto, Virginia, Willie was the son of Blanche and Willie Akers and was raised in Mullens, West Virginia. His love for West Virginia and its people remained a constant throughout his life.

Willie was a man of many accomplishments, but he was defined most by his humility, kindness, and genuine care for others. He had a remarkable ability to make people feel welcome and valued, and he treasured his family, friends, community, Logan High School, and West Virginia University.

A gifted student-athlete and lifelong basketball enthusiast, Willie attended West Virginia University, where he became a proud Mountaineer. He later devoted many years to coaching and mentoring young people at Logan High School, where he earned the respect of his players, colleagues, and community. The relationships he built there remained especially meaningful to him.

Willie served as assistant superintendent of Logan County Schools. His service to Logan County extended beyond the school and basketball court as he served as a Logan County Commissioner for 20 years, committed to improving the community he called home.

Faith was another important part of his life. He was a longtime member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Logan.

Willie's dedication to West Virginia University was recognized throughout his life. He received the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the WVU College of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences in 1991 and the Order of Vandalia in 1999, the university's highest honor for a graduate. He was also inducted into the WVU Sports Hall of Fame and WVU School of Physical Education Hall of Fame, as well as the Mullens High School Hall of Fame, Logan High School Hall of Fame, and West Virginia Sportswriters Hall of Fame.

Willie was devoted to his family. He shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Linda Queen Akers, the love of his life and his constant companion.

He is survived by his sons, Darren (Alice) Akers and Chad (Michelle) Akers; grandchildren, Connor (Hope) Akers, Will (Abigail) Akers, McKenzie Akers, and Jackson Akers; great-grandson, Miles Akers; sisters Melva Houck, Barbara (Maurice) Anderson, and Joyce (Don) Galbraith; brother-in-law Mark (Harry Hall) Queen; sisters-in-law Tina Queen and Fran Queen; and many loving family members and friends.

Willie leaves behind a legacy measured not by titles or honors, but by the people he loved, the young lives he influenced, and the community he served. He was a proud West Virginian, a devoted Mountaineer and Wildcat, and, above all, a good man who gave generously of himself.

Services will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Willie Akers Arena in Logan, WV. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue until the service. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Coach Willie Akers will be held Saturday, August 22, 2026 at the Willie Akers Arena (Logan Fieldhouse). Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Funeral services will start at 2 p.m.

Billy Lunsford

Billy E. Lunsford went home to be with our lord and savior on August 6, 2026. Billy was born on June 12, 1968 at Logan to David and Diana McCoy, he was 58 years old.

Billy was preceded in death by his mother Diana McCoy, his maternal grandparents John Winkler, Elsie Winkler- Miller, and Archie Miller, his paternal grandparents Clyde and Elizabeth McCoy and Herman and Eva Lunsford.

Those left to cherish his memories are his dad David McCoy, three sisters Gretchen Arthur, Kelly Johnson, and Brandy Vance, one brother-n-law Richman Vance, one son Justin Taylor, and his ex-wife Elizabeth Bailey. One nephew Michael Orso, four nieces Kelsie Johnson, Emilee Johnson, Alexis Vance, and Baylee Vance, and one great niece Kinley Marcum. He also had a whole host of Aunts, Uncles, cousins, and friends who will miss him very much, and many many kids that he will always be known to as Uncle Bill. Billy had a heart of gold and will always be remembered for that.

Billy will be cremated and a Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be announced at a later date.
