For many gay, le***an, bis*xual, transgender, and q***r adults, substances may have been quieting identity-related feelings for years. Shame, dysphoria, family pressure, religious harm, or the stress of staying closeted can make alcohol or drugs feel like the only way through. When you stop using, those feelings don't disappear. They often come forward with more clarity and urgency.

Early sobriety can bring up suppressed questions about who you are, who you've been hiding from, and what kind of life you want now. That can feel overwhelming and relieving at the same time. Recovery should give you space to explore those questions with support, without being asked to separate your identity from your sobriety. At No Matter What Recovery, we help LGBTQ+ clients address substance use and identity stress together, because they're often part of the same story.

No Matter What Recovery co-founder Paulo Arranaga-Grayson sits down with Fox 11 Los Angeles to share about his experience growing up gay in the South, the depths of addiction in his life, and how those chapters helped shape the services our inpatient and intensive outpatient program (IOP) provide today. Thank you Fox 11 for the opportunity to share this message of hope during Pride month! ๐Ÿ”— โฌ‡๏ธ

Trying to quit chems*x on your own can feel exhausting, not because you aren't strong enough, but because PNP is connected to more than the drug itself. When m**h or GHB becomes tied to how you experience s*x, confidence, validation, or escape, stopping the substance doesn't always stop the pull back to the apps, the scene, or the pattern.

Chems*x recovery works when treatment addresses the stimulant use, the s*xual behavior, the shame, and the social cues together. If you've already tried to stop and found yourself back in the cycle, you're not alone, and you're not broken. You may just need support that understands the full picture.

PNP can become difficult to stop when s*x, drugs, shame, and social cues are linked. No Matter What offers support for specialized chems*x recovery.
