2 year follow up for and everything looks great.

Initially she had discolored composite fillings on the in-between surfaces and a lot of natural translucency & surface stains made the teeth read slightly gray. Since she’s always on camera or competing on stage, she wanted her smile to pop while also maintaining the shapes and proportions that made her feel like herself.

The challenging part of this case was the severely darkened front tooth (previously treated with root canal surgery called apicoectomy). Metal crowns or posts (which we shouldn’t be using anymore) can create this dark band around the gum line added by the transparency of the tissue which allows show through of the darkened tooth. Sometimes there exists pigmentation of the stained gum tissue itself which can add to this aesthetic challenge. Masking with an opaque core is an option here, as long as the patient is made aware the dark root show through may still be visible. We focused on reducing dominance of the front teeth, raising the position of the posterior teeth (crown lengthening) and building out the sides for a broader, more wide/full smile with
