Another Inspire in the books! I never take our annual OT conference for granted — I am always inspired, reflecting, and energized with new professional goals for myself.

Best yet, there’s something so special about reconnecting with colleagues who have become friends, meeting new leaders in our field, and engaging in the kind of rich conversations that push our profession forward (and, dare I say, more FUN than ever?! 👖⚽️).

From conversations about the many forms of play across the lifespan to sharing strategies for how school-based OTs with advanced training in Ayres Sensory Integration (ASI) can implement this work, even within tight budgets (like mine!), I’m leaving inspired to keep these conversations going and continue breaking down barriers.

One takeaway I’m holding onto: when we connect our work to access and participation, we move closer to a future where every child has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of ability status or zip code.

Grateful for these moments and dreaming big about what’s ahead for our field ✨

Excited to share that I’ve started as an Adjunct Clinical Professor at .otd, where I’ll help teach Children and Youth and its corresponding Fieldwork Level I course this summer!

The timing couldn’t have worked out better — I’ll still be full-time at while stepping into this new opportunity. I am especially looking forward to bridging evidence based clinical practice into the classroom with the incoming hybrid OTD students and continue growing as both a clinician and educator.

A big thank you to Jayna Niblock for the referral and for taking me under her wing — I’m so grateful for the support and mentorship. Looking forward to a meaningful summer ahead!

2016 challenge they say? Ok, enjoy these gems of Ms. Teng, the middle school teacher in Louisiana! 🙈

Back when I knew nothing about supporting student sensory needs in the classroom, but was trying my best to apply what I knew from my undergrad occupational science courses and see what sticks. And laughing/crying/treading water with the best of friends who stuck through the best and hardest of times — including my now husband (we taught at the same school for a year and shared some of the same sped students! 🤯). This was the year I transitioned from rural 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math teacher to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade resource sped teacher! ✨

Funny how much can change in 10 years! 🥰🧠📚

I’m pleased to share that a new systematic review on Ayres Sensory Integration® (ASI) for Children and Youth is now published in The American Journal of Occupational Therapy. I’m honored to have contributed as a supporting author. ✨

Grateful to have worked alongside these brilliant leaders in our field, and hopeful this review supports the advancement for thoughtful, data-informed OT practice.

Hooray! It’s out!! 🌟🎉

It’s with immense pleasure that our systematic review of sensory interventions with children and youth from 2015-2024 is officially published! We were a resilient group who continued to hit the ground running for nearly 2 years altogether from inception to publication.

I’m especially grateful for the mentorship and trust of this powerhouse team who guided me through every step.

👋 Let me (re)introduce myself! Celebrating my birthday week with a fresh new profile pic! 🎉

I’m Krysti, a pediatric occupational therapist in Los Angeles helping children feel seen, supported, and understood ✨

My work centers on sensory integration and processing through a neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based lens — blending current research with real-world practice to help every student thrive. 🌱

I’m passionate about partnering with educators, families, and students to celebrate diverse ways of being and close the opportunity gap.

Just kicked off my first mentorship meeting with Sensory Integration and Processing SIS program and boy am I reinvigorated with the SI knowledge I’ve gained over the years.

Though the program serves to bridge the gap between entry level OT practitioner to beginning an advanced training in sensory integration and processing, content just started rattling off my tongue. From a Clinician’s Guide to Implementing ASI, showing my case study from completing my certification, and reflections from practice, we dove so deep into content — even in our first meeting together 🧠🤸🏻‍♀️

I’m so fortunate to be paired with two amazing mentees this cycle. We plan to come together and break apart throughout the cycle. They ultimately remind me that being an OT practitioner means committing to lifelong learning — asking questions, thinking critically, and tailoring our work to each unique child. Together, we’re focusing on rooting our practice in data, building strong hypotheses, and bridging gaps in access to care. And, best yet, we’re tackling imposter syndrome along the way by putting knowledge into action.

Excited to see how our mentorship journey unfolds over the next few months. The power of mentorship lies in guiding the next generation of practitioners so they may elevate the communities we all serve. 💫

Thank you to for inviting me to the 28th USC Occupational Science Symposium! This year’s theme of Embodiment, Emplacement, and Occupational Science captured how our occupations are lived, contextual, and dynamic experiences (Brofrenbrenner!) that connect person, place, and meaning.

At The Huntington, I was reminded of how occupation is embodied through sensory experience, movement, and connection to nature — the importance of environment! A shining point of my day was Dr. Diane Parham’s tribute to Dr. Elizabeth Yerxa, whose work defined occupation as essential to health, purpose, and justice. Our profession wouldn’t be where is is today without her innovations to take our profession outside the box. And walking the gardens reminded me of Dr. Kate Crowley’s importance of individuals engaging in total flow states (Csikszentmihalyi!) and get lost in occupation 🍃

Reflecting on my experiences from my Occupational Science minor, I’m reminded of mentors like Dr. Gelya Frank, who taught me that OTs must be “rebels” for occupational justice. In fact, her class on occupational reconstructions even led me to join Teach for America to explore our country’s education gap as an immersive community occupation opportunity. I wouldn’t be so invested in schools if not for Gelya and the perspectives she taught me.

Lastly, it was a joy meeting Ashley Uyeshiro Simon and Diego Lopez, who are the current leaders of the OS minor today advancing the program with innovative, inclusive, participatory learning — with so many elective options to boot. Today’s OS students are so lucky to learn in these engaging and fun courses — I had so many laughs and smiles in our hour together.

Grateful to be reminded that occupational science roots our OT practice in meaning, context, and human connection!
