What started as a watery eye ended up being a herpes zoster keratitis. Always stain the cornea. Always listen to your patients. This patient called because the drops I initially prescribed were not helping and her eye began to feel heavy. There were no corneal signs at her initial visit but when she came to her follow up visit this is what I saw. Started the patient on a course of oral antivirals and will see her in a few days.

That's a lot of proliferative diabetic retinopathy. These fundus photos and OCT scans documented this patient’s NVE, NVD, IRMA, hemorrhages, hard exudates, CSME, and even an omega loop! A mix of everything. Needless to say, glasses weren't prescribed at this visit.

Academy 2025 Boston🦞⚓️🇺🇸 We came to Boston for AAO because we are wicked smaht. It was a fun short visit to the east coast for some CE, lobster rolls, and good times with old friends. Looking forward to Academy being back in SoCal next year! Disneyland breaks between CE anyone?

My first patient today, Monday at 8:00 AM, was a young man with a shadow that has been creeping towards the center of his vision for two weeks. IOP was 2. 😔 Retinal detachment with hypotony. Off to .

Neurotrophic keratitis (NK) is a degenerative disease where the cornea has reduced or absent sensation. This leads to epithelial breakdown, defects, ulcers, melting, and even perforation. This patient presented as a dry eye patient. Restasis did not improve her signs or symptoms. On corneal sensitivity testing she did not feel the cotton wisp at all. I have started the process for Oxervate and am excited to see her improve.

Special patient of the day: .akana’s new Labubu was our urgent add-on this morning. IOP was slightly elevated, slit lamp exam was difficult, and refraction was not possible with the phoropter. 😂

On our trip to Japan, we checked out the Kids Plaza Osaka and stumbled upon a cool eye anatomy exhibit. Of course, we had to take some pictures. It would've been great to read the Japanese signs, but I know my way around the eye. 👁️
