How do you carry your prayers?
As I sat with the intentions behind my first retreat, One with the Earth, I thought about the medicines that were woven long before the settlers came.
The sacred weaving of to***co and cloth. A special practice for Sun and Moon Dancers as they prepare for their fasting and sacrifice.
Each bundle carries a prayer. Each cloth represents a direction.
We started in the South, as we do in Soul Retrieval, representing discovery, understanding, the Red Road, and the seven generations coming after us.
The next day, the West. Prayers filled with the divine feminine, the jaguar, and owl spirit. Seeing through the darkness of transformation and release.
We sat with the North, the space of those who have gone before us. The winter silence and the ancestral lineages we hold.
On the day of the equinox, we finished with the East. The space of new beginnings, the sun, and the true patriarchy.
13 bundles for each direction. 52 in total, offered to the fire so the prayers may rise with the flame.
This is not to show off a tradition. This is to honor the teachings of this land.
