Brad Spellberg, MD, is Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Medical Director of Biosciences for LA County Professor of Clinical Medicine and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at the Keck School of Medicine at USC Dr. Spellberg has extensive administrative, patient care, and teaching activities. He received his BA in Molecular Cell Biology-Immunology from UC Berkeley, attended medical school at UCLA, and completed his Residency in Internal Medicine and subspecialty fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. Isabel Milan, RN, is Chief Nursing Officer
Providing leadership and management for hospital clinical operations. Milan also serves on the L.A. County College of Nursing and Allied
Health Board of Trustees. She earned her BSN from California State
University, Los Angeles, and MBA from the University of Phoenix, Los Angeles. Nancy Blake, PhD, RN, is Chief Nursing Officer
Previously the CNO at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and director of critical care services at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) for over 25 years. She is a national speaker on pediatric disaster preparedness, staffing and healthy work environments. Nancy received her BSN from Mount Saint Mary’s College in Los Angeles, her MN from UCLA in Nursing Administration and most recently received her PhD in nursing at UCLA.

Last Wednesday, the LA General family came together in the Courtyard for our 4th Annual Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Celebration! 🌺🥁
It was an incredible afternoon filled with beautiful live cultural performances, a collaborative art exhibit, and a grounding mindfulness and meditation activity. We loved seeing our amazing staff share their unique talents and show out in their stunning cultural attire, celebrating exactly what makes them who they are.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, shared their heritage, and made this celebration so unforgettable!

In September 1960, Crown Prince Akihito and Princess Michiko of Japan visited the orthopedic ward at Los Angeles County Medical Center during an official tour of Los Angeles.

Last week, we celebrated National Hospital Week at LA General with moments that brought our staff together — from poetry workshops with Barbara Fant, to honoring employees born at General Hospital who now serve our community here at LA General, to Zumba, mindfulness breathwork, and more.

We closed out the week by spotlighting one more thing that makes our hospital special: the incredible talent of our staff. 🎤✨

Join us in celebrating Penny Summers, RN, from our B5E Recovery Room (PACU)!
Penny received a powerful DAISY nomination from a patient’s family after supporting them through a stressful, 20-hour wait before surgery. Though she only cared for them during their final hour in recovery, the family described her as an “angel” who provided warm blankets, comforting words, and crucial emotional support through a tough language barrier.
Penny’s manager noted that she didn’t just tend to medical needs—she truly connected and listened when it mattered most.
Thank you, Penny, for your human-first approach and for showing what exceptional care looks like. We are so proud to have you at LA General! 💙
