I’m deeply honored to have been inducted as Treasurer of the International Society of Surgery (ISS/SIC) at its 51st World Congress. Founded in 1902 in Brussels, it is the world’s oldest international surgical organization, created to advance surgery through global collaboration and exchange of knowledge among surgeons. Today, it serves as a worldwide “umbrella” society that promotes surgical education, research, and interdisciplinary cooperation across specialties, bringing together thousands of surgeons and integrated specialty societies to improve patient care globally.

I’m especially grateful for the warm handoff and mentorship from Gerard Doherty, who served as the previous Treasurer. I’m excited to work alongside an extraordinary group of colleagues (Jamie Murphy, Alessandro Fichera, Ken Boffard, Ari Leppäniemi , Ines Buccimazza, Sherry Wren) in the years ahead and to serve on the Executive Council, where we have the opportunity to advance the field of surgery across the globe and expand access to high-quality surgical education for surgeons on every continent.

I was also grateful for the opportunity at this meeting to participate in a thyroid cancer expert panel with Gerard Doherty, Jennifer Rosen and Brian Untch and to moderate a short oral presentation session. Looking forward to the work ahead and to contributing to this incredible international community.

I want to take a moment to wish all my physician colleagues a Happy National Doctor's Day! Thank you for your unwavering commitment to patient care. Physicians have always risen to new challenges, and the past few years have challenged the profession like never before. With courage and compassion, physicians have worked nonstop to keep our patients and communities safe, often putting their own safety and health at risk. Your caring and self-giving attitude have brought great comfort to those who entrust themselves into your care. As a doctor and healer, you are greatly appreciated not only on National Doctors' Day, but every day of the year.

Please take the time to thank your doctors and your friends who are doctors today. It has been an especially grueling few years for physicians, and they would love to hear from you!
