It wasn’t the summer Lisa Diggs planned, when the seasonal substitute teaching job the Army National Guard veteran thought she’d have didn’t come through. Needing help with a few weeks of gas money, groceries and supplies, the educator turned to a familiar source of stability for her: U.S.VETS’ Women Vets on Point (WVOP) program.

WVOP provided a gas card to help Diggs get to her part-time job as a respite care worker, and a Walmart gift card she used for food and supplies for herself and her husband, who live in a senior community bordering Riverside National Cemetery.

“I need the support because I have a lot going on, just with life and everything,” says Diggs, who has attended WVOP-hosted events through the years including the Sista’ Mixa’ gala, the Battle Boutique for career readiness, and weekly group wellness sessions with guest speakers, conversation and camaraderie—opportunities to be seen.

“What I like about WVOP is we have a safe place,” says Diggs, who was diagnosed with anxiety and finds healing through therapy and helping other veterans connect with resources. “Through WVOP, we have a place to talk, we have a place to network, and we have a place to feel comfortable with other women veterans.”

Our first Transitional Tuesday will take place tomorrow with Claims Specialist and friend of WVOP Simone Bent!

In this virtual session, Simone will share all available benefits through Military and Veteran Affairs. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn more about what you’re entitled to!

This is also the first session as part of a new series: Transitional Tuesday! Inspired by research and philosophical claims about how we are always in transition, especially as veterans, this series is designed to help you through the constant state of change we all face.

For more information, including how to get access to this virtual series by becoming a WVOP member, chat with us on our website or DM us on Instagram.
