Today marks the inaugural Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) Awareness Day.
BDD affects more than 100 million people worldwide, yet it remains widely misunderstood. It’s more than feeling insecure about your appearance. BDD can involve persistent, distressing thoughts about perceived flaws, along with behaviors like mirror checking, excessive grooming, reassurance seeking, comparison, or attempts to “fix” perceived imperfections.
In a world where social media can amplify comparison and unrealistic standards, awareness matters.
- BDD is real.
- Effective treatment exists.
- Recovery is possible.
- You are not alone.
Today, let’s challenge the stigma, share accurate information, and remember: you are so much more than how you look.
