Hearing Aid Services of Hollywood

Hearing Aid Services of Hollywood Welcome to Hearing Aid Services of Hollywood, a full-service audiology and hearing aid practice, ser In 1983, Jeff purchased Hearing Aid Services of Hollywood.

Hearing Aid Services of Hollywood is a full-service audiology and hearing aid practice, serving the LA community since 1940. We achieve near 100 percent patient satisfaction because:

* Jeff Grama, our audiologist, chooses the right hearing instruments for his patients based on the severity and type of hearing loss, their lifestyle and budget

* Jeff only works with premier manufacturers (i.e., Ot

icon, Widex, Siemens and GN ReSound)

* Jeff's expertise in programming and fitting hearing aids ensures patients receive the greatest benefit from their devices. He has a reputation for resolving difficult patient hearing aid fitting problems that other hearing professionals cannot successfully address

* Our office is one of the few that delivers hearing aid servicing AND onsite repairs, providing unmatched convenience and cost savings

* Pricing is always competitive and financing is available

HISTORY

Established in 1940. Jeff Grama, M.A., completed his undergraduate training at UCLA in 1972 and received his Master of Arts degree in Audiology from San Diego State University in 1975. He previously worked for a world-renowned speech and hearing center and a major hearing aid manufacturer. He has 38 years of experience in the fields of audiology and hearing aid dispensing. Jeff's professional affiliations include membership in the American Academy of Audiology, Hearing HealthCare Providers of California and the American Auditory Society. As a premier provider, Jeff is repeatedly chosen by leading hearing aid manufacturers to test and evaluate new products. In 2010, he received the Western Hearing Aid Professional of the Year award sponsored by Rayovac, a premier hearing instrument battery company. Rayovac determines the recipients based on the audiologist's level of patient satisfaction.

Introducing the Phonak Ultra Sphere™

In October 2025, Phonak introduced the Ultra Sphere product line. Ultra Sphere features Phonak’s innovative AI Deep Neural Network (DNN) technology, which mimics the human brain's auditory processing to improve speech understanding in complex environments. Ultra Sphere is designed for individuals with mild to severe hearing loss and is available in two styles ― behind-the-ear and receiver-in-canal.

AI Technology: Deep Neural Network for Intelligent Sound Processing

Phonak's proprietary AI DNN is a machine-learning system trained on millions of real-world audio samples. Unlike traditional hearing aids, which rely on fixed algorithms, AI dynamically examines soundscapes in real time, sampling audio 48,000 times per second. Its neural network architecture classifies incoming sounds as either speech or non-speech using a noise library embedded in the microchip. The result is significantly improved speech understanding in all listening environments. The AI continues to learn over time, constantly analyzing conversational speech in the same way the human brain does.

Dealing with Background Noise

Background noise is the most reported problem for hearing aid users, often leading to frustration and withdrawal from activities. The Ultra Sphere tackles this head-on:

• Noise Suppression Mechanism: The DNN separates speech from noise sources (clinking dishes in a restaurant or office chatter) by analyzing frequency, timing, and direction. It achieves a signal-to-noise ratio improvement of up to 8 dB, making speech sound clearer even in noisy environments of 70-80 dB, such as on busy streets or in cafes.

• Less Listening Effort: AI lowers cognitive demand by automating noise filtering. Brain imaging studies show up to a 25% reduction in activation in auditory processing areas. This helps prevent "listening fatigue," allowing users to stay engaged longer in noisy situations, improving mental health and quality of life.

Additional AI Components

Speech-in-Noise Enhancement: The DNN identifies and amplifies targeted speech while suppressing competing non-speech sounds. It was trained on diverse datasets, including various dialects, languages, and noise types (traffic, crowds, or music), to provide up to 20% better speech understanding in noise.
This AI isn't just reactive, it's predictive. The system keeps learning and optimizing sound using accumulated sound data from the user's ever-changing environment experience to maximize hearing performance.

Key Features

• Ultra Sphere combines AI with practical innovations for comfort, connectivity, and customization:

• StereoZoom 2.0 and SoundProtect: Advanced beamforming microphones create a virtual "zoom" on the speaker directly in front of you. SoundProtect uses AI to detect and reduce sudden loud sounds, such as a slamming door, by up to 10 dB without distorting speech.

• Universal Bluetooth Connectivity: Ultra Sphere pairs with Apple iOS and Android devices for hands-free calls, streaming music/podcasts, and TV audio. It supports dual-streaming (processing audio from two devices simultaneously).

Ultra Sphere Helps in All Listening Situations

The Phonak Ultra Sphere excels in making everyday interactions more natural and less exhausting for those with hearing impairment. By leveraging AI to process sound holistically, it addresses the core challenge of hearing loss ― distinguishing meaningful signals from irrelevant noise.

In summary, the Ultra Sphere isn't just a hearing device; it's an intelligent companion that restores natural hearing dynamics. For those who are hearing impaired, this means greater independence, fewer misunderstandings, and fuller participation in life, especially in today’s noisy world. Learn about the latest hearing aid technology on March 23, 2027, at the HLAA meeting held at the Hear Center in Pasadena, CA. My talk will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will include discussion of AI available in the current products, ALD products, an Auracast demonstration, as well as what will likely be available in the future. There will be a Q and A session. Contact HLAA if you would like to attend.
