At SRB, before we ask our participants to try something new, our president and favorite reluctant volunteer, Rolando Romero, usually gets to try it first. 😂

We believe in pushing the envelope, doing more with less, and finding ways to turn a “no” into a “YES!”

This time, Rolando took on the shooting range in Las Vegas.

A huge thank you to The Gun Store and Range Master Joe for giving Rolando and SRB a chance, taking the time to work with him, and giving him the opportunity to safely experience shooting several different fi****ms.

We’re always exploring new possibilities and asking one simple question:

Why not?

SRA JUDO FLOOR

Goal: $70,000

Sports and Recreation for All (SRA), a program of Sports and Recreation for the Blind (SRB), is raising funds to build a proper judo floor for our blind, visually impaired, and sighted judokas.

When our judo program started, we used what we had. Over time, we collected different mats and put them together to create a floor where our judokas could train.

Today, our floor is made up of about five different types of mats. Many of them are gymnastics mats, and they were never designed to connect together as one judo floor.

We’ve made it work, but the mats don’t always line up or stay together. They can shift and separate during training, some are starting to tear between the panels, and in some places we have to use tape just to help hold everything together.

The mats we have got us this far. Now we’re ready for a floor that was actually made for judo.

WHAT WE WANT TO BUILD

Permanent Judo Floor — $30,000

We want to purchase 200 Swain tatami panels. Each panel measures 1m x 2m.

Fifty mats make one complete competition area, giving us four competition areas total.

We don’t have to wait until the entire campaign is funded. Our plan is to purchase 50 mats at a time. Once we have enough for one competition area, we can order it and start replacing the old floor.

Portable Rollout Mats — $33,000

We also want four portable Flexi-Connect competition areas made from 6’ x 30’ rollout panels.

These will give us a judo floor we can take with us for tournaments, scrimmages, clinics, demonstrations, and other events.

We’ll purchase the rollout mats one competition area at a time as funding allows.

The rest of our $70,000 goal will help with crash pads, dollies, protective covers, storage and transportation equipment, taxes, shipping, and other costs that come with completing the floor.

SPONSOR A TATAMI — $150

Want to leave your mark on our new floor?

For $150, you can sponsor one of our 200 permanent tatami panels.

Put your name or family name on it, dedicate it in honor of someone special, or dedicate it in memory of someone you want remembered.

Each sponsored tatami will be numbered and personalized on the rubber underside with your name or dedication.

Only 200 are available.

NAME A COMPETITION AREA — $8,000

For $8,000, you can sponsor and name one of our four portable rollout competition areas.

Businesses, organizations, families, and individuals can name an area or dedicate one in honor or memory of someone special.

Only four naming opportunities are available.

EVERY DONATION HELPS

You don’t have to sponsor a mat or an entire competition area to be part of this.

Give $10, $25, $50, $100, or whatever works for you. Every donation helps us get closer to our new floor.

If you can’t donate, you can still help by sharing our fundraiser with your friends, family, dojo, business, or anyone who may want to support our judokas.
