I just rediscovered this article which explains a very helpful concept that I discuss with clients often -- how to find out what the people we care about really need when they are upset. And when you start talking this way with those you are close to, you become better able to let them know what you need as well, so that you feel heard and there is less friction.

Offering support can be tricky, but experts say this technique helps.

I'm excited to introduce the newest therapist joining my practice, Ryan Hynes. Ryan is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, specializing in work with couples, LGBTQ+ clients, and people struggling with low self-worth. His work centers intersectional identity factors like neurodiversity, gender diversity, race, and culture. He holds an M.S from California State University Northridge and a B.A. from Northwestern University, and he has advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), trauma-informed care, and collaborative, strengths-based therapy. Ryan's previous experience includes working as a therapist at the LA LGBT Center and providing telephone crisis counseling at the Bill Wilson Center. Ryan is seeing local clients in our office in Los Angeles, as well as clients throughout California via telehealth.
