I’m excited to announce the launch of my personalized dementia prevention program - call or text to schedule 818.336.4366 or comment BRAIN & I will reach out to you (make sure you follow me so I can send you a DM)

Here are some inportant dementia facts:
💃Women have a significantly greater risk than men
💊We really don’t have any very effective treatments yet so prevention is essential
📖A huge report published in the prestigious journal Lancet in 2024 suggests that up to 45% of dementia cases could be prevented by addressing top risk factors including: High blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol, inactivity, excess weight, hearing and vision loss, smoking, and diabetes.
💉Getting a shingles vaccine (flu shot and pneumonia vaccine don’t have similar brain benefits) if you are 50 and older could reduce your risk of dementia by 24%
👯Socializing, maintaining a consistent sleep schedule and eating a gut healthy diet rich in fiber, herbs & spices can all play a role in reducing risk.
🧠A recent study called the SMARRT trial showed a 74% improvement in brain health with a personalized approach to brain health
🩸Getting specific biomarkers like , homocysteine and vitamin D into a healthy range can reduce your risk of dementia even if you are a higher genetic risk (ie an Apoe4 carrier)
👶And finally, the sooner you start showing your brain a little love the better as the underlying pathology of dementia starts decades before symptoms do.

I’m not an influencer - I see patients every day for weight loss - and I learn a lot from their experiences & I’m going to try to share tips more often.
💪First up: Body composition - it takes adequate protein PLUS strength training to gain or protect muscle - neither works as well alone.

🍗Aim for 80-120 g of protein per day; spread evenly if possible, plus 2-3 days of strength training (lift heavy enough to challenge yourself, but not so heavy that you injure yourself!)

Supplements aren’t a magic bullet for optimal health, but they CAN play a role when they are personalized to YOUR unique needs. Don’t be tempted to buy every pill and potion on IG - work with a qualified nutrition expert (like and RDN or nutrition MD) to figure out what is best for YOU.

❤️Women and heart health is one of my favorite topics and sadly most women don’t think about it until it’s too late and they suffer a stroke or heart attack.

Hormonal changes can dramatically increase a woman’s risk of heart disease not only due to increases in cholesterol, but because of insulin resistance associated with drops in estrogen play a major role and loss of estrogen can also contribute to endothelial dysfunction (more on that in another video soon).

Step 1: Know your numbers. If your doctor won’t order tests like hsCRP, lpa, ApoB and fasting insulin that help you figure out your risk (beyond just cholesterol)find a new doctor. I’m often surprised by how many women are under managed when it comes to heart disease prevention.

And check out the association’s life simple eight for a blueprint on minimizing your risk from a lifestyle standpoint. ❤️Questions?

We have known for years that exercise is critically important for weight loss maintenance and a new study in the journal Obesity may explain some of the reasons why.

The study showed that late phase GLP1 release 90-180 minutes after a meal was increased by 37% in people participating in a structured exercise program doing moderate to vigorous exercise compared to usual activity for a year after weight loss (25% more than the usual activity group). This may help prevent increases in appetite often associated with weight loss that make weight maintenance challenging.

Plus the increase or maintenance in muscle may play a role.

I’m obsessed with quick & healthy snacks and I got tired of buying store bought oat bites that had only 2 g of protein, 2 g of fiber and 9 g added sugar. My upgraded oat balls are delicious and have 5 g of protein, 2.5 g of fiber and only 3.4 g of added sugar (from honey). Plus they have pepitas (pumpkin seeds) for a boost of magnesium. Comment OAT and I will send you the recipe! MD

Are you taking a GLP1 medication (or thinking about it). If so please listen to this reel. These meds don’t do all the work! Diet (especially fiber and of course protein) and exercise (both cardio and strength training) are really important for both short and long term benefits.
