A cracked tooth occurs when a fracture develops in the tooth structure, sometimes extending into the root. Symptoms typically include sharp pain when biting and sensitivity that comes and goes. Whether the tooth can be saved depends on the location and extent of the crack. Some cracks can be treated with a crown and root canal therapy. Cracks that extend below the gumline often cannot be saved!

Gum grafting is a surgical procedure that restores gum tissue lost to recession — covering exposed root surfaces, reducing sensitivity, and protecting against further recession and decay. It may be recommended when recession is causing sensitivity or pain, when root surfaces are at risk of decay, when the recession is likely to continue, or for cosmetic improvement of the smile. Modern techniques have made grafting significantly more comfortable with much faster recovery than in the past!

Thousands of people in underserved communities live with untreated dental pain simply because they do not have access to care. Through SHINE Dental Missions, our team of dentists, volunteers, and dental students provides free dental treatment to patients who would otherwise go without care.

The week of March 23rd, our team will be traveling to El Salvador to provide humanitarian dental care, and we are currently looking for sponsors to help support this mission.

Your support helps us bring relief, restore smiles, and improve overall health for communities with limited access to dental services.

Helps us provide non-perishable food items to families in need during our mission outreach.
