Facial hair AND thinning scalp hair? They can be connected.
With PMOS (PCOS), higher androgen activity can affect hair differently depending on where it grows. On the face, it can cause thicker, darker hair while at the same time cause thinning and widening part on the scalp.
It's a local effect so blood tests do not always accurately reflect what is going on at the level of the follicle.
While things like the birth control pill can help the irregular periods and hair issues, it is not always enough. Many patients still need to remove excess facial hair through laser or electrolysis and use things like topical minoxidil or Alma TED for thinning hair on their head.
Make sure you communicate with your healthcare provider about what your goals are as treating PMOS/PCOS systemically does not necessarily treat your hair issues and treating your hair issues will not necessarily treat PMOS/PCOS.
