Coming out doesn't automatically teach the body that it is safe.

For many q***r individuals, years of hypervigilance, masking, rejection, minority stress, and navigating unsafe environments train the nervous system to stay on alert long after external circumstances have changed.

Sometimes healing is not about changing your thoughts.

He's not in crisis. He's just been "fine" for so long he forgot what fine act.

These aren't character flaws. They're what happens when a nervous system learns that need is dangerous.

Men don't avoid therapy because they don't care about healing, they avoid it because most therapy wasn't built to meet them where they actually are. It asks them to name feelings before their body has been made safe enough to feel them. It skips the part where culture, survival, and identity are doing most of the driving.

June is Men's Mental Health Month. In many of our cultures, men are taught that providing is the only acceptable form of love, and anger is the only acceptable form of pain. But anger is just grief that has nowhere else to go.
When a nervous system is not allowed to feel fear or sadness, it defaults to fight mode. Healing for men doesn't always start with talking. It starts with the body learning it is safe to put the armor down.
