Big news: our CEO just earned a major industry award! 🎉 Martha Santana-Chin has been named Insurance Executive of the Year at the LABJ 2026 Healthcare Leadership Awards.

In just her first year and a half, Martha has stood up for members facing changes to Medi-Cal, led our response to the LA wildfires, and championed a workforce program that's already helped 28 scholars graduate from medical school and begin residency.

This one's for our members, our providers, and the communities we serve together. Congratulations, Martha! 👏

L.A. Care employees showed up for the American Red Cross blood drive hosted at our headquarters, right in the middle of a national shortage the Red Cross calls only the second crisis of its kind in history.

Every unit collected can now go to a patient waiting on a transfusion, including new moms, surgery patients, and cancer patients treated at the hospitals that serve our members.

Eight future physicians, one shared commitment: to expand access to compassionate, culturally sensitive care across Los Angeles County. 💙

At this year’s Elevating the Safety Net event, L.A. Care Health Plan awarded eight full medical school scholarships—providing nearly $500,000 in support to each scholar—to aspiring physicians committed to serving medically underserved communities.

Now in its ninth year, the program has awarded 72 scholarships since 2018 to students attending the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science. As healthcare workforce shortages continue to grow across Los Angeles County, L.A. Care is helping to prepare the next generation of physicians and build a stronger, more diverse healthcare workforce rooted in the communities it serves.
