Our TWC members and dedicated staff volunteers worked hard to get everything ready for this year's Wellness Festival! From setting up the space to preparing for our wellness partners, every detail helped create a welcoming experience for our Centers staff.

A special thank you to the Kaiser Mobile Health Van for helping make the event a success by providing valuable health screenings and wellness resources. 🩺💙

Huge shout-out to our Total Wellness Committee for putting together an unforgettable Wellness Festival! 💛
From delicious food 🍎 to a staff talent show 🎤, free health checks 🩺, fun dance lessons 💃, and goodie bags packed with treats 🎁 — this event had something for everyone.

Thank you to everyone who came out to prioritize their wellbeing, connect with coworkers, and have some fun along the way. Events like this remind us that wellness isn't just about the checklist — it's about community, joy, and taking a moment to recharge together.

July is Minority Mental Health Month

Fear of judgment, cultural beliefs, generational differences, and lack of access to resources, often prevent people of color from addressing struggles openly and seeking the help they need. To overcome these barriers, it is essential to foster open and honest conversation about mental health. When people who live with a mental health condition share their stories, it can help others feel less alone and reduce shame.

Maintaining a diverse staff that reflects our community is essential to providing culturally competent support to our clients. Understanding cultural differences leads to better outcomes. Without that, stigma may not be addressed, misdiagnoses can occur, and language differences can become obstacles to care.

At San Fernando Valley Community Mental Health Center, Inc., we are committed to making our services, as well as our hiring practices, accessible to all persons served in the community, including persons of diverse ethnic backgrounds, cultures, age, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, spiritual beliefs, and languages. That commitment was recognized in 2022 and 2024 by the San Fernando Valley Business Journal when they honored the Center for our work related to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI).

Hope really does grow through kindness, compassion, and connection. 🌳

Our donor appreciation event was a celebration of generosity, connection, and impact—bringing together those who support our mission and those whose lives have been touched by it. Three clients shared their journeys from homelessness into housing, reminding everyone in the room why this work matters. Tours of the Jorge Vega Center for Hope offered everyone a mindfulness exercise and good food. Clients even provided dishes they prepared using produce from the on-site garden they tend to and a special dessert.

To everyone who came out, spoke, cooked, and gave: thank you for being part of this community!
