Raise your hand if one awkward conversation has ever turned into a full Netflix series in your head.
We’ve all been there.
Our brains can be a little dramatic sometimes, and you don’t have to believe every story they tell.
One of our favorite DBT mindset shifts is surprisingly simple:
Add one word.
And.

Our co-founder, Sasha, will be the first to tell you that some of the best mindfulness practices don’t happen in a therapy office.
Gardening naturally invites us to slow down, notice what’s around us, engage in our senses, and stay present which are all core components of mindfulness and emotion regulation in DBT.
Sometimes healing looks like dirt under your fingernails, sunshine on your face, and five quiet minutes spent tending to something that’s growing.
What’s your favorite way to reconnect with the present moment?

Mahjong is having a moment, so naturally, we had to investigate.
A few hours later, none of us had become Mahjong experts, and we laughed a lot, enjoyed some sunshine, and Sasha’s puppy pretty much stole the show by bringing all the good vibes.
Turns out, connection doesn’t always look like a team meeting. Sometimes it looks like trying something new together and getting surprisingly invested in little tiles.
Should the Westside Therapists Mahjong Club become a thing? Stay tuned!!!

Have you recently turned one mistake, one hard day, or one awkward interaction into a full personality assessment?
Today’s reality check comes from Sasha.
Therapist. Mom. DBT expert. Parent coach. Baker.
Occasional provider of evidence that your inner critic may not be a reliable source.
Swipe through for reminders before your brain starts writing fan fiction about everything that went wrong today.

A note we would have added:

You’re actually really good at getting through things

like keep going, don’t think about it, move on.

But getting through it, and feeling through it are not the same.

That gap?
That’s the work at Westside DBT

Which one are you doing more of?

Fridays at Westside DBT have their own vibe.
Less “let’s figure everything out”
and more like… okay, what are we walking into this weekend.
Because weekends tend to get a little louder.
More time, less structure, a few more chances to make a 10:47pm decision.
Not a bad thing. Just… predictable.
So, it’s less about controlling anything
and more about catching it while it’s happening.
Maybe a small pause.
Maybe just knowing what’s coming.
That’s usually enough.

Why am I suddenly feeling everything at once?!
Spring is here.
And things are shifting, not just outside.
A little more energy.
A little more emotion.

Instead of trying to shut it down
try reaching for something that actually helps.
Your Spring forecast is ahead (emotionally speaking)
Save this for later. You’ll come back to it.

It’s been a minute since we connected!
At Westside DBT, we’re always thinking about the clinicians, schools, and families in our community and how we can better support the clients you’re holding.
We’re currently offering:
• DBT Skills Groups
• Parent Skills Groups
• Individual & Family Therapy
• Comprehensive DBT care for kids, teens, adults, and families
Across West LA, Studio City, & Hermosa Beach.
Whether you’re looking for skills-based support, parent coaching, or full DBT care, we’re here as a collaborative partner not just a referral.
Let’s reconnect over coffee, consultation, or a quick call.
We’d love to hear who you’re supporting right now and how we can help.

Valentine’s Day, rebranded.
Not just flowers.
Not just dinner reservations.
Not just waiting to see who texts first.
This year, it’s about:
• Checking the facts before you spiral.
• Remembering two things can be true.
• Letting love feel loud, without losing yourself.
• Choosing regulation over reactivity.
Romance is cute.
Emotional regulation is elite.
Consider this your permission to celebrate secure attachment starting with yourself.
Send this to someone who needs it.
Or comment which card you’re claiming this year (1, 2, 3, or 4).
Steady > chaotic.
XOXO,
Westside DBT
