Egg donation is a path to pregnancy for individuals and couples who aren’t able to use their own eggs.

In this process, an egg donor undergoes ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval. Those eggs are then fertilized through IVF, and the resulting embryo is transferred to the intended parent or a gestational carrier.

People choose egg donation for many reasons—age-related changes in egg quality, previous IVF outcomes, genetic concerns, or medical conditions that impact ovarian function.

It’s also a path to parenthood for single men and same-sex male couples, alongside a surrogate.

Like all fertility journeys, using donor eggs is deeply personal—and for many, it becomes a meaningful way to grow their family.

Not sure when to take the next step? Here are 5 signs it may be time to see a fertility specialist:

• You’ve been trying to conceive for 6–12 months without success
• You’ve experienced two or more miscarriages
• Your periods are irregular or absent
• You or your partner have a condition that may affect fertility
• You’ve tried initial treatments (like ovulation meds) without success

Fertility specialists help identify the root cause and guide you toward the right treatment whether that’s medication, IUI, IVF, or something else entirely.

If something feels off, it’s worth getting answers sooner rather than later.

Fertility naturally changes with age but that doesn’t mean your chances are gone.

While it can take longer to conceive in your late 30s, many women still get pregnant within a year. The key difference? Egg quantity and quality gradually decline over time, which can impact how quickly it happens.

That’s why guidance shifts after 35, if you’ve been trying for 6 months without success, it’s a good time to check in with a doctor.

In the meantime, small steps can make a big impact: tracking ovulation, supporting your body with balanced nutrition, maintaining a healthy weight, and managing stress.

Your timeline may look different but your path to pregnancy is still very much possible.

When you’re trying to understand infertility, testing is often the first step and not all tests look for the same things.

Two common procedures are a fluid ultrasound and a hysteroscopy. Both help your doctor evaluate the uterus, but in different ways.

A fluid ultrasound is less invasive and great for spotting issues like polyps, fibroids, or changes in the uterine lining. A hysteroscopy goes a step further, allowing your doctor to directly view (and sometimes treat) conditions inside the uterus.

But neither test tells the full story. They don’t fully assess fallopian tubes, ovarian reserve, or conditions like endometriosis which may require additional testing.

Fertility care isn’t one-size-fits-all. Your doctor will recommend the right combination of tests based on your unique situation.

Infertility doesn’t always look the way people expect.

It can look like showing up to work like everything’s normal.
It can look like avoiding certain conversations.
It can look like hope, disappointment, and trying again, all at once.

During National Infertility Awareness Week, we’re reminding ourselves that not all struggles are visible.

A little more empathy, a little more awareness—it goes a long way.

Fertility journeys don’t follow a single path.

For some, it’s IVF. For others, it’s IUI, surrogacy, egg donation, or adoption. And for many, it’s a combination of different paths along the way.

National Infertility Awareness Week is a reminder that every journey is valid and every family story deserves to be respected.

However your path unfolds, it’s yours.

Ovulation is more than just a date on your cycle it’s a complex hormonal process that makes pregnancy possible.

Each month, your body releases a mature egg, which travels to the fallopian tube and waits up to 24 hours for fertilization. At the same time, your body is preparing the uterus for a potential pregnancy.

Some people notice signs of ovulation like changes in cervical mucus, slight cramping, a small rise in body temperature, or even an increase in libido. Others may not notice any symptoms at all.

But when ovulation doesn’t happen regularly, it can impact fertility. Irregular periods, very painful cycles, or difficulty conceiving may be signs to talk to a doctor.

Understanding your cycle is one of the most important steps in understanding your fertility.
