May their memories be a blessing and may racism and gun violence be wiped from our society. We need to be better.

The three people killed yesterday in the shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego have been identified as Amin Abdullah, Mansour Kaziha, and Nader Awad.

Amin, a father of eight young children, was a security guard at the center. He sacrificed his own life to stop the gunmen and protect worshippers, staff, and children in the building.

Mansour was a community leader and managed the mosque store for nearly 40 years. He called the police before he was fatally shot.

Nader was a member of the mosque and lived across the street from the center. He rushed towards danger to help when he heard the gunshots.

All three victims are heroes, and they should each still be here. We’re holding their families and the entire Muslim community in San Diego in our hearts as they grieve this tragedy.
