*New Therapist Spotlight*
Please join us in welcoming our newest clinician, Amber Salik! Amber (she/her) is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, Expressive Arts Therapist, and Narrative Photographer. Intrigued? Read on!

Amber says that from a young age, she aspired to explore multiple professions that shared core philosophies of creativity, community, connection, and healing. Today, as an expressive arts therapist, she is driven by these same values and is passionate about using art as a tool to help people with clients from various backgrounds, including BIPOC and LGBTQ+ adolescents and adults.

Her specialties include identity issues, holistic wellness, self-care, chronic illness, creative blocks, spirituality, life transitions, and relationships/attachments. As an expressive arts therapist, she says she aims to be “proactive in seeking out new ways to help my clients achieve their goals” and uses techniques from a variety of theoretical frameworks, such as IFS, Narrative Therapy, ACT, CBT, NTU Psychotherapy, and Strengths-Based, Person-Centered approaches. Amber uses a variety of art modalities, including photography, collage, and other visual arts, bibliotherapy, music movement, and psychodrama; centered in a culturally-specific and grounded approach to therapy that values diversity and social justice.

We are soooo excited to have Amber onboard and cannot wait to share her upcoming community photo therapy projects she has planned with you all! If you’d like to set up a consultation with Amber to get started in your therapeutic journey, you can reach her at [email protected] OR text us at 323-536-1640

**REPOST VIA AND

I have been thinking of ways that healing can be brought to individuals through community and what has continued to emerge is the idea of third spaces. A Third Space is really, just a place outside of our homes or work, where we have an opportunity for individual (and perhaps, more hopefully) collective growth — most commonly they were places of worship or sports teams/events or artists studios or pubs. Salons, back in the 17th & 18th centuries were a type of a Third Space, where people went to learn new things, exchange ideas, meet new people. These places were about finding oneself through connection to others — something I think we may have lost sight of, especially in the wake of COVID.

So, on a regular (monthly) basis, along with will be offering a drop in ‘Third Space’ for folks in the community. I will be making custom tea blends for folks to sip on, while you make art (supplies will be provided, if you want to participate), and connect with other awesome people over conversation. I have some conversational prompts in mind, but I also am excited to see how things evolve on their own. This isn’t group therapy per se, but I promise that it will be therapeutic; I will be available to check in and facilitate throughout. In time, this will grow to include other clinicians and healers who will be extending some of their knowledge and offerings as well.

Although this time of year seems to be busier and more demanding than other times of the year, this is the season to slow down. Look at nature: this is a time of dormancy and root-building; trees have dropped their leaves and are using their energy to grow and expand beneath the soil. You don’t need permission, maybe just a reminder: it’s OK to shift speed to a pace that reflects the NATURAL world around us and better fits our biology. This could look like not over scheduling yourself, taking a nap, eating hearty healthy meals, getting cozy at home, sitting fireside (or candleside) with some tea, journaling in bed…

If you have some ways you can (or already do) slow down this time of year, please share!
