I want to begin this post by saying, I am not typing any of this so people feel sorry for me. And at the end of the day I’m ok, but I have always believed in pulling back the curtain and being real because you never know who needs to see that there is someone else in the trenches with them.

I know how to do hard things.
My parents were chronically ill my entire life struggling, in and out of the hospital.

I lost my beloved grandma to cancer when I was 16.

3 months after I got married my grandpa was killed in a tragic car accident one day before he left for Israel.

My cousin was murdered by his girlfriend.

My brother took his own life when he was 19.

I have walked through the deep valleys of mental health with both of daughters.

I have struggle with an eating disorder for over 20 years of my life that has led to serious self worth issues.

I have had multiple career and life changes of starting over.

My husband out of the blue and a shock to even his doctors was diagnosed with a cancer they have never seen in a man as young as Miguel.

And through it all I was strong. I was hopeful. And I believed.

But something broke in me when they found another tumor just weeks after we celebrated one year of clean scans.

For the first time in my life I have no idea what the light at the end of this is. How to have peace, joy, and love through this very dark time.

I cling to the words in this song. That someday I will look back and be a testimony to someone. I don’t feel this now, but I have to believe that.

Saturday evening thoughts…..
I’ve always admired strength.

But lately,
I’ve realized something.

Sometimes we call people strong
because they’re carrying so much.

We forget
that carrying it well
doesn’t make it lighter.

The strongest people I know
aren’t without need.

They’re simply the ones
who keep walking,
even when no one realizes
how heavy the journey has become. Be Kind. Take action in people’s life when you can. Remember to reach out to check in on people. We need each other.

Update on Pretty soon after we celebrated one year of clean scans, Miguel began having symptoms again. A week and half ago the doctors confirmed there is another tumor. It’s very small and he is scheduled for surgery on July 29th. It’s definitely not the news we wanted but taking one day at a time, focusing on his mental and physical health and believing in miracles.

I have never been gentle with myself.
I always push.
Expect so very much from myself.
I rarely speak kind words about myself.
I am certainly never loving.
But the past 2 years have broken something inside of me. It has broken things I use to care so much about into little tiny pieces of “I couldn’t care less”.
Spend energy counting calories? No thank you.
Worry about my mom pooch? I literally don’t even blink about you anymore.
Try so hard to get everyone to like me? To be good enough? Yeah not enough brain space for that.
So for the first time in probably 15 years, my word of the year does not revolve around doing. Pushing, trying more.
I have chosen the word I desperately crave in my life right now….peace.
So if you see me and I am a little chunkier than I use to be, a little less chipper, a little quieter and reflective. It’s because I am focusing inward and making choices to bring that peace into my life.

Everyone tells you how quickly time flys by. You don’t truly understand it in the hectic pace of being a mom. Until days like today and you have no idea how your little girl is in her last year before officially being an adult. c you have been a joy from day one. You are fierce, independent, go after what you want, intelligent and you are willing to learn and grow as a human. I adore how we can chat through things and spending time with you is one of my favorites. You may be growing up, but your mom with always be behind the scenes as your biggest cheerleader, loving you with her whole heart, being fiercely proud of you, and a soft landing place when you need me.
Happy 17th birthday baby girl.
