Governor Gavin Newsom has officially signed ARCA’s sponsored bill, AB2324, into law, setting in motion the state’s high school career pathway for direct support professionals. This represents a significant change in how California supports “youth caregivers' for family members who have disabilities, chronic illness, or are aging. AB2324 will clear the path for these students to enter the field of developmental services and other allied home and community services. https://bit.ly/4bKUlZm

Celebrate Disability Pride Month this July! This month-long observance honors disability identity and community while marking the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law on July 26, 1990.

The theme for 2026 was selected by The Arc’s National Council of Self-Advocates and is a powerful reminder of our collective value: “The World Works Better With Us.”

When people with disabilities are included, respected, and involved in the decisions that shape our world, the outcomes are stronger and fairer for everyone. In fact, many innovations we all rely on today—such as curb cuts, closed captioning, audiobooks, and voice-to-text—originated from disability-led advocacy and design.

The Disability Pride Flag, featured here, was created by writer Ann Magill to be a symbol of solidarity and hope. The diagonal bands represent light and creativity cutting through the “darkness” of the barriers that separate the disabled community from the rest of society.

What the colors signify:
🔴 Red: Physical disabilities
🟡 Gold: Neurodiversity and intellectual disabilities
⚪ White: Invisible and undiagnosed disabilities
🔵 Blue: Psychiatric and emotional disabilities
🟢 Green: Sensory disabilities
⚫ The Charcoal Background: Mourning and rage for victims of ableist abuse.

Join us in celebrating disability culture and pushing for the full inclusion we all deserve.
