It’s here. 🤍

There’s something very different about holding these words in my hands after carrying them in my heart for so long.

The Unbroken Bond is more than a book to me. It is part of my story with Jonathan, part of my journey as his mother, and part of what I’ve come to understand about a connection that continues even when someone we love is no longer physically here.

Writing it meant putting some of the most personal parts of my life on the page.
And now, I finally get to share those pages with other mothers.

Mothers who are searching.
Mothers who are questioning.
Mothers who still feel their child close.

Mothers who need to know that their relationship with their child can still have a place in their life.

The bond doesn’t break. It changes.

This book is for the mother who still says, “My child.” 🤍

Because that doesn't change.

When a child crosses, motherhood doesn't suddenly become past tense. The love is still there. The instinct to mother is still there. The relationship is still there, even as we begin learning what that relationship looks like now.

That is at the heart of The Unbroken Bond.

I wrote this book mother-to-mother, not because I have every answer, but because I know what it is to search for them.

I know what it is to miss your child’s physical presence while still feeling, with every part of you, I am still their mother.

And that is what I want to talk about.

Sometimes finishing the story is only the beginning of the conversation. 🤍🦋

When I wrote The Butterfly and The Invisible Superhero, I wanted children to have more than a story about grief.

I wanted to give families something they could come back to when the questions continued.
Because they will.

A child may want to talk about the person they miss. They may notice a butterfly, have a dream, feel a warm breeze or simply want to say their name.

And sometimes, they may just need something tangible that reminds them of the connection they still carry.

That’s why the book includes a Note for Grown-Ups, with gentle guidance for continuing these conversations, as well as a special Create Your Own Invisible Superhero Cape activity for children.

The cape gives them something of their own to create and hold onto as they think about their Invisible Superhero and what that person means to them.

My hope is that families don’t simply read this book and put it back on the shelf.

I hope they talk, remember, ask questions, create, and keep saying the names of the people they love.

Because grief and love can exist in the same little heart. 🤍

What if “gone” doesn’t have to mean forgotten? 🦋

One of the hardest things to explain to a grieving child is how someone they love can no longer be physically here and still remain such an important part of their life.

In The Butterfly and The Invisible Superhero, I use the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly to give children an image they can understand.

The caterpillar disappears into the cocoon, but that isn’t the end of its story.

It changes form.

That simple idea can open the door for families to have their own conversations about death, heaven, spirit, connection, and what they believe happens when someone we love is no longer physically here.

There isn’t one perfect conversation or one perfect way to explain something this big to a child.

Sometimes, they just need an image their little heart can hold onto. 🤍

The relationship may look different. The love continues.

Before it was a book, it was a story I needed to tell seven grieving children. 🤍🦋

When Jonathan crossed, his three children and their four cousins were trying to understand something that can be difficult even for grown-ups to put into words.

They missed their Dadda and Uncle Jonathan. They had questions. And as their Grandmum, I wanted to find a way to help them understand what had happened without taking away the love and connection they still felt.

So I told them a story.

A story about Casey, a little caterpillar who disappears into a cocoon and emerges as a butterfly.

Through Casey, I could introduce the idea of transformation in a way their young hearts could understand.

And through the Invisible Superhero, I could give them a way to imagine that although someone they love is no longer physically here, that person can still remain an important part of their lives.

That story was created for my grandchildren.

But I knew there were other children asking the same questions and other grown-ups searching for the words to answer them.

And that is how The Butterfly and The Invisible Superhero became a book. 🦋

For every child who misses someone very much, and every grown-up helping them understand.

Some of the biggest questions can come from the smallest hearts. 🤍

Where did they go?
Can they still see me?
Do they still love me?

When a child is grieving, we may want so badly to find the “right” words that we forget something important: we don’t need to have all the answers.

Sometimes, we simply need a gentle way to begin the conversation.

That is what I wanted to create with The Butterfly and The Invisible Superhero. 🦋

Through story, imagination and transformation, the book gives children language they can understand while giving the grown-ups who love them a way to talk about grief, connection and what it means when someone we love is no longer physically here.

Because these conversations are hard.

But our children shouldn’t have to carry their questions alone. 🤍

It’s here. 🦋🤍

This story began with seven little hearts that needed help understanding something that can be difficult even for grown-ups to put into words.

When Jonathan crossed, his three children, Juliette, Jack and Jameson, and their four cousins were grieving someone they loved deeply.

They had questions. They missed their Dadda and Uncle Jonathan. And as their Grandmum, I wanted to give them a way to understand that although someone they love may no longer be physically here, love, memory and connection do not simply disappear.

So I told them a story.

A story about Casey, a little caterpillar who disappears into a cocoon and emerges as a beautiful butterfly.

A story about transformation, invisible strings, signs, memories and a very special Invisible Superhero who is never as far away as he may seem.

That story became The Butterfly and The Invisible Superhero. 🦋

I wrote it for my grandchildren, but I created it for every child who misses someone very much and every grown-up searching for gentle words to help them understand.

The book also includes a Note for Grown-Ups and a Create Your Own Invisible Superhero Cape activity to help families continue the conversation beyond the story.

At the heart of it all is something I want every grieving child to know:
The bond is never broken.
The connection continues.
Love Never Ends. 🤍

I still have three children. I always will. 🤍

When Jonathan crossed, I did not become a mother of two.

I gave birth to three children. I mother three children. I love three children.

Two of my children live in California. One lives in heaven.

The number is still three.

For a grieving mother, this can be such an important thing to say out loud because the world can sometimes begin speaking as though the child who crossed is no longer part of our family.

Jonathan is still part of mine.

I didn’t stop being his mother. I had to learn a different way to be his mother.

And that continuing relationship is at the very heart of The Unbroken Bond.

I wrote this book for other mothers walking this road, to help them begin to understand that while the relationship with their child has changed, the bond between them has not disappeared.

My hope is that through my own story, my experience as a psychotherapist, and what I have learned about continuing connection, another mother might feel a little less alone as she begins to discover what her own unbroken bond can look like.

Because your child still counts.
Your motherhood still counts.
And your relationship with your child can continue. 🤍

This is where The Unbroken Bond truly began. 🤍

The morning after Jonathan crossed, I picked up a pen and reached for a language I had known for years: automatic writing.

What happened next became the beginning of learning how to have a relationship with my son in a completely different way.

It didn’t erase the grief. It didn’t make me stop missing his physical presence.

But it showed me that our relationship had changed. It had not ended.

That experience, and everything that followed, became part of the journey I share in The Unbroken Bond.

I wrote this book for the mother facing the unimaginable and wondering what happens to the relationship she has with her child now.

Because that was the question I had to live myself.

The bond doesn’t break. It changes.

The Unbroken Bond — coming soon. 🤍
