Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center Welcome to the Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center

At the Los Angeles Caregiver Resource Center (LA CRC), we support family caregivers in LA County who help an adult relative or friend (over the age of 18) affected by chronic and debilitating health conditions including dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, cerebrovascular diseases (such as stroke or aneurysms), degenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and multiple sclerosis, and traumatic brain injury (TBI), among many others. Caregivers help with one or more of the following tasks: physical care (getting in and out of bed), making health care decisions, cooking, cleaning, yard work, managing medications and going to doctor visits, making important decisions, shopping for groceries and other items, legal issues, help with bill-paying, bathing and dressing, or providing transportation. LA CRC is a program of the USC Family Caregiver Support Center (USC FCSC), which is the community service arm of the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology.

Caregiving doesn’t look the same from one season to the next, and the support that works today may not be what your family needs tomorrow. Knowing what’s available can make it easier to adapt when circumstances change—and to make informed decisions along the way.

A major diagnosis can change more than a person’s health. It can affect routines, relationships, roles, and expectations for the future. For those supporting a loved one, it can take time to adjust to those changes, too. Creating space for that adjustment can be an important part of moving forward together. 💭

Not every injury is visible.🧠For caregivers, that can mean navigating challenges that look very different from one day to the next. Patience, flexibility and a willingness to meet your loved one where they are can make a difference. And remember: you don't have to figure it all out on your own.

This week, LA CRC welcomed a delegation of 15 leaders from Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare. The visit was organized by Dr. TsuAnn Kuo, an associate professor at Chung Shan Medical University and a former USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology student.

The delegation visited our center to learn about the USC Family Caregiver Support Center, caregiver burnout, the risk of caregiver neglect or mistreatment, and the services and innovative collaborations available to support high-risk family caregivers. It was a wonderful and meaningful event!

What can you do to give your brain a little workout? 🧠Try something new, challenge yourself, stay curious, and keep learning. You don’t have to become an expert or pick up a complicated new hobby. Sometimes, simply giving your brain something unfamiliar to figure out is a great place to start.
