Most people think about food in terms of calories, protein, or “healthy vs unhealthy.”

In Chinese Medicine, we look at food a little differently. Food has an energetic nature and can be warming or cooling, drying or moistening, stimulating or grounding.

When you understand this, you don’t need to restrict foods. You can simply balance them.

This is the foundation of Chinese Nutrition Energetics, based on traditional Chinese diet therapy. It’s a practical way to support digestion, energy, and your nervous system using food you’re already eating every day.

For example:
Coffee is warming, drying, and upward moving, so adding coconut milk, honey, or ensuring adequate minerals can make it feel more grounded and stable.
Raw foods like smoothies or salads are cooling, so adding ginger, cinnamon, or cooked elements can make them easier to digest.

Over time, eating in a more balanced way can support:
• digestion and bloating
• stable energy levels
• reduced anxiety and jitteriness
• overall nervous system regulation

This isn’t about cutting anything out. It’s about learning how to work with your body instead of against it.

Save this as a resource and feel free to comment any questions about food energetics!

Foot pain is a common issue I treat in my practice — whether it’s due to plantar fasciitis or from wearing heels or uncomfy shoes for too long, this is my favorite technique to use.

In acupuncture, we sometimes use techniques like mapping and microsystems, in which one part of the body reflects another. This lets you treat foot pain without touching your foot at all — try it and let me know how you go!

Many people associate acupuncture with pain treatment, but there are SO many other amazing uses. It can regulate digestion, gut motility, and ease menstrual cramps by unblocking stagnations and restoring the natural flow of Qi.

In Chinese Medicine, a lot of these symptoms come back to the body’s resources getting stuck. Creating movement and removing stagnation allows the body to do what it’s been trying to do all along. This gentle support is often the push needed to relieve physical and emotional discomfort, even beyond digestion and hormone balance.

how to unclench your jaw (and your nervous system)

most people don’t realize how much they’re clenching until it starts to hurt —
headaches, tight face, sore neck, shoulder tension, shallow breathing, anxiety

here are a few ways to start releasing it:

• buccal massage: releases deep tension inside the cheeks + jaw
• acupuncture: downregulates the nervous system + relaxes the muscles
• mouth taping at night: encourages nasal breathing + reduces overnight clenching
• magnesium glycinate: supports muscle relaxation + deeper sleep
• gentle jaw stretches: slow opening/side-to-side movement (don’t force it)
• unclench check-ins: notice throughout the day whether you’re storing tension and actively clenching. “is my tongue relaxed? are my teeth touching? are my shoulders up to my ears? am I breathing?”

the goal isn’t to force your body to relax, but to give your body signals that it’s safe to release when it’s ready

If your body acts like it is — tight chest, jaw clenched, a drop in your stomach — you’re not broken, you just learned to stay on high alert. Acupuncture helps your body come back to baseline so little things don’t feel like an emergency. I have a few spots left this weekend if you want to feel the difference yourself ☁️

Constipation isn’t just about your gut. It’s about movement, warmth, and feeling safe enough to let go.

In TCM, we look at constipation as a pattern of stagnation, dryness, or nervous system dysregulation, not just something to fix quickly.

These are gentle, effective ways to support your body so things can move naturally again.

If you’re dealing with chronic constipation, bloating, incomplete bowel movements, stress-related digestion issues, or feeling “stuck” in your body…

This is a good place to start.

Your body isn’t working against you, it just might need a different kind of support.

Save this for later and come back to it when your body needs it.

Because health class was more about “don’t get pregnant” and less about how to understand your cycle… here’s more info on what ovulation is, when you’re actually fertile, and why your energy and mood shift throughout the month.

Your period isn’t just a monthly inconvenience. Instead I see it as a feedback system that reflects your hormones, stress, and overall health.

If your cycle and fertility tracking have ever felt confusing or random, it’s not because your body is unpredictable. It’s because no one taught you what to look for and what it all means! Let me know if you’d like more info on the phases of your cycle 🩷

Another perspective on some of the causes behind wrinkle formation & facial tension — what if it’s not purely genetic, and what if there’s actually something we can do? A lot of my work as a cosmetic acupuncturist focuses on relieving patterns of stored emotional tension to release the heaviness it creates. Let me know if you’d like more on this topic!
