Looking back on the past few school years, we’ve seen how unpredictable life can be — from Covid shutdowns to fires to all the unexpected changes in between. But what’s carried us through has always been community. 💪💛 Together with families, teachers, and our students, we’ve learned that joy and resilience walk hand in hand.

And that’s why we’ll keep choosing happiness first. Because when children feel happy and supported, everything else follows. 🌟

Back-to-school season always feels a little extra special at Park Century School 💚For years, we’ve had the joy of being part of this incredible community — working side by side with teachers, students, and families to make sure every child has the support they need. So grateful for our family! And so excited to work with their new Interim Head of School, Matthew Stewart hailing from New York.✨

From setting up sensory spaces to building routines that help the day flow, our team has seen firsthand how the smallest adjustments can create the biggest wins. But what really makes Park Century shine is the kids: the way students embrace their unique strengths, how teachers and aids pour into every single learner, and the families who show so much encouragement and support.

We’re so grateful to continue this journey together, and watching students grow year after year. Here’s to another amazing school year in Culver City! 📚✨

✏️Back-to-school season can bring out all the tactile sensitivities: itchy uniforms, stiff shoes, crowded hallways, sticky glue, finger paints, even the scratch of a pencil on paper.

For some kids, those small things feel huge.
For others, they can’t get enough — they touch everything in sight.

The tactile sense is our ability to process touch, and when it’s out of balance, the school day can feel overwhelming before class even starts.

If your child is extra sensitive to clothes, textures, or “sticky” school supplies right now — you’re not alone. Their nervous system is adjusting to a big sensory shift. With understanding and support, they’ll find their balance. 💛

Back-to-school means new classrooms, new routines… and a lot of new sounds. 📣

For some kids, that’s exciting.
For others, it’s overwhelming.

The auditory sense isn’t just about hearing — it’s about how the brain organizes and reacts to sounds.

🎧That’s why one child might cover their ears at the cafeteria, while another turns up the volume on everything. Both are trying to find balance.

This doesn’t just apply to kids of course, but adults as well! We all need a little support and regulation sometimes! ✨

When we say “visual skills,” most people think about 20/20 eyesight…but in OT, we’re looking at so much more. The visual sense is your child’s ability to interpret and use what they see.

Here’s why it matters:
✔ Guides handwriting, spacing, and letter formation
✔ Helps keep place while reading
✔ Supports memory for shapes, words, and patterns
✔ Affects coordination for sports and play

Signs your child might be struggling:
• Skips lines or words while reading
• Trouble copying from the board or a book
• Bumps into things or seems “clumsy”
• Gets tired quickly during visual tasks

💡 The good news? Visual processing can improve with practice. OTs use playful, hands-on activities like puzzles, mazes, ball games, and building to strengthen these skills.
