I know much of the US is covered in snow right now, but today is technically the last day of autumn. Tomorrow is the Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year.

Throughout late Autumn and into Winter, it is very common for patients to come in and express feeling more tired than usual during these colder, darker months. Of course, there is always the option for energizing herbs, and I like to give a nice, rejuvenating acupuncture treatment, but mostly my advice is to go with it. Let yourself go to bed earlier, do a slightly shorter run in the morning, eat a few more carbs or calories if that's what you feel like you need during this time.

In Chinese Medicine, yin and yang are dependent on each other. In order to have energy in the morning (yang!), we need to have proper sleep at night (yin). In order to perform mentally and physically during the day (yang), we need to sit and eat food (yin). Winter is the most yin time of year, and if you are called to embrace your yin a little more right now, trust yourself; it will allow for the perfect balance of yang when it comes time for Spring.
