There's a difference between being informed and being consumed.

A lot of us know exactly what that feels like.

You check the news to stay informed. Thirty minutes later you're anxious, angry, overwhelmed, and somehow still scrolling.

This conversation explores why that happens, why our brains get hooked on that cycle, and why it can feel even more intense during menopause.

Ever feel like alcohol just doesn’t hit the way it used to?

You’re not imagining it.

In this conversation, our panel explores why alcohol affects women differently in midlife and what your brain has to do with it.

Have you ever realized you’ve been taking care of everyone but yourself?

Dr. Somi Javaid says perimenopause was the moment she finally had to ask that question.

After years of saying yes, picking up the extra shift, and putting everyone else’s needs first, she began writing down her “must-haves” and her “never agains.”

Because somewhere along the way, she realized she deserved the same care she gave everyone else.o.

There comes a moment when you realize the thing that once helped you cope isn’t helping anymore. It’s actually hurting.

For Elena Brower, alcohol and ma*****na had become a way to numb chronic unhappiness. But over time, she noticed they were making her mood more volatile, her reactions less predictable, and pulling her further away from herself.

Then one day, she watched herself reach for it again and thought, Enough.

The next morning, she quit. Cold turkey.

In this conversation, Elena shares what led her to that decision, what sobriety gave back to her, and how to recognize when a coping mechanism has outlived its purpose.

Sometimes the best health experiments start with one simple question:

“What happens if I change just one thing?”

For Schuyler, that meant swapping wine and beer for tequila with soda and lime before repeating her labs.

Was it scientific? Not exactly.

Was it enough to spark an interesting conversation about alcohol, sugar, and metabolic health? Definitely.

Most of us think of dementia as a disease of our 70s and 80s.

But according to emerging research, some of the changes associated with Alzheimer's disease may begin decades earlier during midlife.

Neuroscientist Dr. Lisa Mosconi describes estrogen as a key regulator of the brain's energy supply.

As estrogen declines during menopause, the brain's metabolism changes, and researchers are learning more about how those shifts may relate to long-term brain health.

The encouraging news? Midlife may also be a window of opportunity.

The choices women make during perimenopause (including, for some women, appropriately prescribed hormone therapy) may play an important role in protecting cognitive health later in life.

Menopause isn't just about managing symptoms today. It's also about supporting your health for decades to come.

𖤓 Click commune.to/lum-pod to listen to Work, Relationships & Finding Your Power for the full conversation on menopause, brain health, and what every woman should know about protecting her cognitive future.
