Two years after her liver transplant, Mia is thriving. Diagnosed with biliary atresia at two months old, Mia's condition quickly progressed to end-stage liver disease. She received her new liver at CHLA in June 2024, at just four months old.

Today, Mia is embracing every adventure life has to offer. From gymnastics and swimming to exploring Italy and London on her first international trip, she's growing into a curious, courageous, and joyful little kid who loves learning and experiencing the world around her.

Stories like Mia's are made possible by extraordinary care. We're proud that CHLA's Liver Transplant Program has earned the nation's highest one- and three-year patient and graft survival rates for the fourth consecutive time.

Most importantly, these outcomes represent children like Mia getting the chance to grow, thrive, and make memories with the people who love them. “We are forever grateful for the people who have loved, cared for, fought for our girl alongside us, and have given her the chance to live the beautiful life she is living today,” says Mia’s mom, Sara.

This week, the Linder family traveled from Iowa to Los Angeles to show 5-year-old Camila where her journey began and, more importantly, the place where she spent the first two months of her life: Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

Born with two congenital heart defects, an interrupted aortic arch and a ventricular septal defect (a hole in the heart), Camila was immediately transferred to the Heart Institute at CHLA, home to one of the nation's leading pediatric heart programs. There, she underwent a life-saving surgery performed by pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Luke Wiggins.

During this special visit, Camila reunited with Dr. Wiggins and members of the CHLA team who cared for her during those critical first weeks.

Today, Camila is thriving, growing stronger every day, and getting ready for her next big milestone: starting kindergarten!

A beautiful milestone for Ryder and her family. 🔔 After treatment for a low-grade glioma, a type of brain tumor in children, Ryder recently rang her end-of-treatment bell at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles!

When Ryder’s family came to CHLA’s Brain Tumor Center for a second opinion, they were introduced to specialized diagnosis and targeted treatment options not available at other area hospitals. CHLA’s multidisciplinary team of pediatric brain tumor specialists, including experts in pediatric neuro-oncology and pediatric neurosurgery, helped guide Ryder’s care and create a treatment plan tailored to her tumor.

Now Ryder is officially off treatment and entering her next chapter with strength, style, and so much joy. Congratulations, Ryder! 💛
