Emotional safety makes conflict feel survivable instead of threatening.

Credentials are not about superiority. They’re about accountability.

Mental health work involves real vulnerability, real risk and real responsibility. That’s why licensed clinicians are required to complete supervised clinical hours, pass licensing exams, follow ethical standards, complete continuing education and remain accountable to professional oversight.

Accountability matters when people are vulnerable.

The way we assign credibility online deserves a deeper conversation.

Research has consistently shown that attractiveness, colorism, confidence, and proximity to Eurocentric beauty standards shape perception in powerful ways — including who people perceive as trustworthy, intelligent, emotionally safe and authoritative.

Social media didn’t create these dynamics, but it absolutely amplifies them.

A few thoughts on how perception, influence and emotional safety intersect online.

This conversation is bigger than one creator.

As an LMFT with a PhD in International Psychology who researched colorism and attractiveness privilege as my dissertation topic, I wanted to offer a more layered perspective on the current discourse surrounding online healing spaces and mental health influence.

People are not just looking for information online. They’re looking for emotional safety, relatability, validation and cultural understanding especially within communities impacted by generations of medical mistrust and systemic harm.

At the same time, social media shapes credibility in ways we don’t always acknowledge. Research consistently shows that colorism, attractiveness, and proximity to Eurocentric beauty standards influence perception, trust, authority and opportunity across nearly every area of life.

If you want to learn more about colorism, the “color halo,” the preschool to prison pipeline, and how appearance impacts perception and opportunity, I highly recommend the work of the brilliant researchers Dr. Ronald E. Hall, Dr. Margaret Hunter, Dr. Christopher A.D. Charles and Dr. Ellis Monk.

Tomorrow morning, I’ll be joining Front Page with Dara Starr Tucker on 102.3 KJLH for a conversation about caregiving, burnout and the emotional realities of the “sandwich generation” — a reality so many people are quietly navigating right now.

We’ll be discussing the psychological impact of dual caregiving: chronic stress, emotional exhaustion, anticipatory grief, identity loss and the pressure of constantly showing up for everyone else while trying not to lose yourself in the process.

Most importantly, this conversation will offer practical tools for recognizing burnout, managing overwhelm and remembering that caregivers deserve support too.

📻 Tune in tomorrow morning on 102.3 KJLH — missed it? Listen on the KJLH app!
🤍 Let’s talk about how we care for ourselves and each other through it all.

For Mental Health Awareness Month, I’m adding more clarity to the way we talk about mental health.

“I’m overwhelmed” can mean a lot of things.

Sometimes it’s too much to manage, burnout or lack of support. Naming the feeling matters but understanding what’s underneath it is just as important.

Emotional safety changes the way people communicate, connect, and heal.

As part of Mental Health Awareness Month, I’m breaking down common phrases we hear all the time.

“Set boundaries” is one of them but it’s often misunderstood.

Boundaries aren’t about controlling others. They’re about being clear on what you need, what you’re comfortable with, and how you choose to respond.

“If you see something you like… say it.”

In this conversation, Michole McBroom shares why genuine compliments matter more than we realize — and how speaking kindness out loud can truly stay with someone. ❤️

“Good Quality Human with Michole McBroom” on “Like-Minded with Dr. Patrice” is now available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube.

For Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re taking a closer look at the language we use when we talk about mental health.

“Protect your peace” gets used often but not always with clarity.

It’s not about avoiding everything that feels uncomfortable. Sometimes protecting your peace means staying present, setting limits and engaging in a way that feels intentional and grounded.
