Our very own Dr. Ranjana Sinha, a parent with Parents Standing Together, will be speaking at the Beyond the Bet: Youth Problem Gambling Conference in Illinois!

Ranjana brings such a powerful perspective as both a pediatrician and the mother of a son in recovery from problem gambling. She understands this issue professionally, but she also understands it as a parent—and we are incredibly proud that she will be representing Parents Standing Together.

Her session will focus on recognizing warning signs earlier, understanding what may be happening beneath a young person’s behavior, and helping families access support before gambling-related harm escalates.

“I never thought my child would have a gambling addiction.”

Kim’s son’s gambling began with video game skins and grew into offshore casinos and crypto.

Today, she’s the co-founder of Parents Standing Together, helping parents recognize the signs and know they’re not alone.

Awareness can change everything.

Parents, would you know this was gambling if your child showed it to you?

Did you know this was on Steam?

This is not a casino app.
This is not DraftKings.
This is not FanDuel.

This is a video game called “Gamble With Your Friends.”

What is Steam?
Steam is one of the biggest online video game stores. It is where people buy, download, and play computer games.

And that is exactly why parents need to pay attention.

You usually cannot win real money directly on Steam. But that does not mean it is harmless.

Some games still use gambling language, casino themes, betting behavior, fake money, pressure, debt, risk, reward, and “just one more try” mechanics.

The description of this game uses words like:

casino crawler
shared bank account
massive debt
loan shark’s daily quota
5 minutes or face the consequences

This is what we mean when we say gambling is being normalized.

Not just in casinos.
Not just on sports betting apps.
Not just on phones.

It is showing up in games, cartoons, friends, bundles, discounts, and “fun.”

Parents need to know what our kids are seeing before it becomes something they are hiding.

Way My son was sitting right next to me…

and I still couldn’t reach him.

He said,

“Mom, I want to stop…

but I can’t.”

And I didn’t understand.

I kept saying,

“Just stop,”

Please just stop.”

But I was telling a gambling addict…

to stop gambling.

I didn’t know his brain had already been hijacked.

The dopamine system.

The part that says,

“One more.

Just get even.

Just win it back.

Just make the shame stop.”

And I’m his mom.

I could see the shame.

I could see how sad he was.

I could see he hated what he was doing.

But I couldn’t reach him.

That’s what broke my heart.

Missing my son…

while he was sitting right in front of me.

We teach our kids about drugs and alcohol.

But how many of us were ever taught the warning signs of gambling addiction?
