Hantavirus and Ebola have been in the news a lot lately, and while both situations are being closely monitored, it’s a good reminder of the basics when dealing with potential special pathogens: Identify, Isolate, and Inform.

✔ Identify symptoms and relevant travel or exposure history
✔ Isolate the patient promptly and safely
✔ Inform infection prevention, leadership, and public health as appropriate
Staying prepared protects patients, staff, and communities.
