Updated COVID vaccines were approved at the end of August 2026 and started rolling out to pharmacies in September 2026.
The new vaccines target currently circulating variants, specifically focusing on the JN.1-lineage XG variants.
The vaccines reduce your risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death from current strains.

Who is Eligible:

Ages 65 and Older: Officially approved and strongly recommended for all older adults.

High-Risk Individuals: Approved for younger people who have underlying health conditions (like asthma, obesity, or weakened immune systems, such as many of our patients in rheumatology) that raise the risk of severe COVID-19 illness.

Available Options:

Moderna: Spikevax and mNexspike formulas.
Pfizer-BioNTech: Comirnaty updated formulas.
Novavax: Protein-based non-mRNA option (Nuvaxovid).
