SOS In so doing, SOS succeeds in improving healthcare for the poor and underserved around the world, including in our own region.

SOS improves healthcare access for those in need locally and around the world by collecting surplus medical supplies from healthcare systems and using the items to save lives rather than going into landfills. SOS is a Louisville, KY based humanitarian aid organization that promotes global health, environmental stewardship, and community awareness through the efficient recovery and responsible dist

ribution of surplus medical supplies and equipment. SOS is one of only 7 accredited medical surplus recovery organizations in the U.S.

๐ŸŒŽ Today is World Environment Day, and at SOS, protecting the environment goes hand in hand with improving lives.

The U.S. generates nearly 6 million tons of medical waste each year, yet much of what is discarded is still usable. By recovering surplus medical supplies and equipment, SOS helps keep valuable resources out of landfills and puts them into the hands of people who need them mostโ€”right here in Louisville and beyond.

In this video, two of our community partners - Pushing Forward and Louisville Outreach for the Unsheltered - share how these supplies are making a real difference for the people they serve every day.

Since 1993, SOS has recovered more than 6 million pounds of medical supplies and equipment while improving the lives of more than 14 million people.๐Ÿ’™

Sometimes the simplest gifts can make the biggest difference. ๐Ÿ’™

Recently, SOS was able to provide a wheelchair requested by the team at Goodwill Opportunity Center for Orville McKinney. We were touched to receive a video of Orville expressing his gratitude and sharing what this support means to him.

Thank you to everyone who helps make moments like this possible through SOS.

One of the most rewarding moments at SOS is when volunteers get to see the impact of their work firsthand.๐Ÿ’™

Retired nurses and SOS volunteers Adriane and Jean were packing an order for Love Without Reason when Susan Mathews stopped by to pick it up. Susan took the time to meet them, thank them personally, and share how the supplies will support her team's upcoming mission to Kenya, where they provide life-changing cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries.

Volunteers often help pack orders without ever meeting the people they are helping. This special connection was a powerful reminder that every box packed at SOS changes lives.

Thank you, Adriane and Jean, for your dedication, and best wishes to the Love Without Reason team on their upcoming mission. ๐ŸŒ

A Southern Indiana mom recently shared how SOS made a life-changing difference for her 14-year-old daughter, who had become so discouraged by her medical challenges that she no longer wanted to leave her room.

After being referred to SOS by a former preschool teacher familiar with our mission, the family received the support they needed โ€” and her daughter became excited to participate in her schoolโ€™s field day. ๐Ÿ’™

Moments like this remind us that the right medical support can restore confidence, independence, and hope. Thank you for helping SOS make stories like this possible.

We love seeing medical supplies put into action for the next generation of healthcare professionals! ๐Ÿ’™

Students at Northwest AHEC recently thanked SOS for supplies that supported Stop the Bleed trainings, patient care clinics, and hands-on learning toward professional healthcare certifications.

Building skills and confidence in our future healthcare workers is a big part of our mission, and it wouldn't be possible without supporters like YOU!

Partnering with Jefferson County Public Schools physical therapists is amazing because it increases students' access to education and daily interaction with peers!

"We use equipment like wheelchairs, standers, and walkers to help kids be able to participate in a manner similar to their peers." - Stephanie Taylor, PT, MS, DPT

It was so great hearing the many ways JCPS is expanding accessibility and mobility for students, and we're grateful to be a part of it!

Many times, the greatest impact happens through partnership. ๐Ÿ’™

Recently, SOS was contacted by an elementary school family resource center in Bowling Green about a young girl in need of colostomy supplies. Her family is struggling and has no insurance.

Through our partnership with Friends of Ostomates Worldwide-USA - FOW โ€” an organization that receives ostomy and colostomy supplies from SOS โ€” help was immediately available.

Together, weโ€™re making sure this child gets the supplies she needs and reminding one family they are not alone.

SOS was thrilled to be a volunteer site for the Northeast Christian Church Love The 'Ville Outreach Blitz this past Sunday! ๐Ÿ’™

Volunteers packed medical supplies that will support our neighbors in need through SOS's Local Health Program and help improve healthcare access in Ghana through one of our upcoming international projects.

Thank you to everyone who gave their time and energy to make a difference both here at home and around the world! ๐ŸŒŽ

A big thank you to the Galen Louisville, KY Campus HR team for volunteering at SOS! ๐Ÿ’™

After helping at one of our Free Wheelchair Repair Clinics, Shannon Schneidtmiller Mingus organized a volunteer day and brought her HR team to support our mission.

Together, they sorted and packed syringes that will be shipped to health facilities in underserved regions around the world, local clinics, and schools training our future healthcare professionals.

Thank you for helping lifesaving supplies reach those who need them most!
