I spent most of my career thinking good leadership meant having the answers.

Parenting teenagers taught me something different.

People don’t always need you to solve the problem. Sometimes they need to know it’s safe to bring the problem to you.

And that changed the way I think about both parenting and leadership.

Mom Brain vs. Rational Brain When Your Teen Doesn’t Text Back

The attitude wasn’t the whole story.

I addressed the disrespect later, but first, I helped my teen find better words for what they needed:

“I’m overwhelmed. I need space.”

That’s communication.

The goal isn’t to never react.

It’s to make sure our first reaction doesn’t become the reason they hesitate to tell us the next hard thing.

Connection doesn’t mean no boundaries. It means keeping the conversation open long enough to actually parent. ❤️
