We are now a 90-bed hospital and can grow alongside the community … up to about 200 beds. As a not-for-profit health care provider, all revenue is reinvested to provide advanced medical services and equipment. Madison Hospital is a member of Huntsville Hospital Health System.

Sometimes, the best decisions in life start with a gentle nudge from the people who know us best.

David Blankenship was working in construction when his wife recognized something special in him — she saw a compassionate caregiver in the making and convinced him to pursue a nursing degree from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She couldn't have been more right.

Since then, David has dedicated over four decades to caring for our community’s most vulnerable patients in our Intensive Care Unit and, before that, in Huntsville Hospital’s Medical ICU. Not surprisingly, he won our 2026 Nurse of the Year Award.

Beyond his incredible bedside care, David is a teacher at heart. As a preceptor, he has mentored and guided dozens of new nurses, passing down his vast knowledge, calm presence and deep clinical skill to the next generation.

David, thank you for 44 extraordinary years of service, leadership and heart. We wish you a happy, restful and well-deserved retirement! 👏💚

This year’s Wave of Light ceremony brought together families from across North Alabama to honor and remember babies gone too soon. 🕯️💗

Hosted by Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children and Madison Hospital, the ceremony was part of a worldwide tradition in which families light candles at 7 p.m. on Oct. 15, creating a continuous wave of light across time zones in remembrance of babies who are forever loved and missed.

To every family who joined us, thank you for allowing us to be part of such a meaningful evening. 💗 A very special thank you to Ryker’s Rainbow for hosting us at their Community Prayer Garden.

👏 Join us in congratulating Makenzie Edwards, RN, from our Acute Medical Care Unit, for earning the High-Reliability Organization (HRO) Hero Award! 🏆

While caring for a heart failure patient on a Lasix drip, Makenzie noticed an additional order for a Lasix IV push. Seeing that the patient was already responding well to the drip, she paused and asked clarifying questions to double-check the order before administering it. Her sharp clinical intuition and attention to detail ensured the order was clarified and prevented the patient from receiving an unnecessary extra dose.

Makenzie’s willingness to speak up and verify care is a perfect example of how our nurses protect patient safety every single day.
