Something I want every family in Northeast Iowa to know:

We are closer than you think.

45 minutes from Cedar Rapids.
45 minutes from Dubuque.
45 minutes from Waterloo.
30 minutes from Monticello.

And for the families making that drive, I want you to know we see you. We know you are choosing to go out of your way for a different kind of care and we do not take that lightly.

The families who drive an hour to sit with us because they could not find anyone who would actually listen. The mamas who discovered that what they needed was a provider who asks why instead of just treating what is in front of them. The parents who drove past three other clinics to get here because something about root cause care felt right.

That is exactly why Rooted exists.

If you have been looking for holistic functional pediatric care in Northeast Iowa and did not know where to find it, you found it.

Tap the link in our bio to learn more and to schedule. We would love to meet your family!!

Rooted is growing!

From the very beginning the vision for this practice has been to build something big enough to truly serve this community. To never have a family wait too long. To always have capacity for the child who needs us.

That vision is becoming more real every single day.

Stay tuned because we have a very exciting introduction coming your way very soon. The Rooted family is getting a little bigger and we cannot wait for you to meet them!!

“It’s not that big of a deal.”

But it is.

Who your children spend time with.
What they watch.
What they hear.
The words spoken around them.
The behaviors they see normalized.
The adults they learn from.
The friendships they form.
The environments they’re welcomed into.
And what they’re given access to.

Their childhood is shaping who they’ll become long before they’re old enough to realize it.

So yes, I’m intentional.
Yes, I pay attention.
Yes, I have boundaries.

Because when it comes to raising my children, the little things are often the big things.

I know we have all been hearing about parasite cleanses lately. It is everywhere right now and I want to give you a real answer from a pediatric provider who actually recommends them.

Not fear. Not hype. Just the honest truth about what they are, who benefits, and what it actually looks like when we do this thoughtfully at Rooted.

Tasty Tuesday and this week is for the school night dinners because if your family is anything like ours right now the schedule is absolutely packed and the last thing anyone wants to do at 5:30pm is cook a complicated meal.

Sheet Pan Chicken and Veggies. One pan. Thirty minutes. Actual dinner.

What you need:
1 pound chicken thighs or breasts
2 cups of whatever vegetables you have, broccoli, bell peppers, zucchini, sweet potato, carrots, all work
3 tablespoons olive oil
Garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, paprika
Optional: a drizzle of honey at the end for a little sweetness

Toss everything in olive oil and seasoning. Spread on a sheet pan. Bake at 425 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes until the chicken is cooked through and the vegetables are caramelized at the edges.

That is it. One pan to wash. Dinner is done.

Why we love this one: chicken is one of the best sources of complete protein for growing kids. The vegetables provide fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. Olive oil adds healthy fat for nutrient absorption. And the whole thing comes together while you are helping with homework or doing literally anything else.

Batch two trays on Sunday and lunches are handled for the first half of the week too.

Save this for the nights when you have nothing left!!

Your child might be hitting their daily sugar limit before lunch. And nobody is talking about why that matters.

The recommended daily added sugar limit for kids ages 2 to 18 is no more than 25 grams per day. For kids under 2, the recommendation is zero added sugar.

Here is what a typical school morning looks like for a lot of families:
A glass of orange juice at breakfast: 21 grams of sugar.
A flavored yogurt in the lunchbox: 12 grams of sugar.
A granola bar as a morning snack: 8 grams of sugar.

That is 41 grams of added sugar before noon. Nearly double the daily limit. And the day has barely started.

I am not sharing this to create panic or guilt. I am sharing it because most of this sugar is hidden in foods that have been marketed as healthy. Juice. Yogurt. Granola bars. These are not inherently bad foods but when we look at what they are doing to blood sugar, focus, energy, and mood throughout the school day, the picture changes.

A child who spikes and crashes on sugar before lunch is the child who cannot focus in the afternoon. Who is irritable at pickup. Who is ravenous at dinner and cannot sleep at night. The sugar is not a coincidence. It is a driver.

What to swap:

Whole fruit instead of juice. Plain Greek yogurt with a drizzle of honey instead of flavored. Nuts and cheese instead of a granola bar.

Small swaps. Real impact. Save this and share it with every school family you know!!

Words from the Rooted Family.

Your reviews mean the absolute world! If you haven’t left a review yet, we would absolutely appreciate it. Because they are not just kind words. They are the whole reason we do this work. Giving our children the healthcare they deserve!

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and I want to talk about something that sits at the intersection of cancer awareness and the kind of root cause care we practice every single day at Rooted.

The standard lab reference ranges that most providers use are not the same as optimal ranges.

Normal does not mean thriving. And for too many kids and families, the difference between those two things goes unnoticed for far too long.

Swipe through because this one could genuinely change how you think about your child's health!!

Save this and share it with every parent you know!!
