☎️We got the kids (8 and 5) a landline.

We originally did it because:
A) we wanted them to be able to call 911 if needed

B) we aren’t doing cell phones for the foreseeable future (shout out to
and )

C) Alexa calling isn’t always reliable

Here’s what I’ve learned so far:

☎️our kids have no idea how to use a phone. They messed it all up. Didn’t know how to dial or what a dial tone is. Sure they talk on our cell phones but they’ve actually never dialed a number. They’ve never put the phone down to hang up. They have no reference for this daily activity that so many of us take for granted.

☎️ This is an amazing opportunity to practice life skills and communication. Here are some things we worked on this week:

📞sequencing
📞greetings/farewells
📞asking and answering questions
📞narrative language

☎️ plus the grandparents love it, too. Give your kids the gift of robust methods of communication, because “Communication begins at home 🏡💬❤️☎️”.

P.s- I like my landline a lot. It’s a .kids phone.

“[insert name] was a late talker and they turned out fine!”;

📈We SLPs have heard it all for years, and the research gets stronger and stronger supporting early intervention for positive outcomes.

📈In a new study, researchers found that more than 50% of “late talkers” went on to have later diagnosed language and literacy disorders, including dyslexia. (Mettler, et. al. 2026)
