Behind every service this levy supports is a person.

A mother who got help for her depression. A son in recovery, rebuilding his life. A friend who found support close to home. A teenager who has a counselor at school because someone noticed something was wrong.

These are not abstract issues. They are our neighbors, coworkers, friends, and families.

When we vote yes on the Mental Health Levy, we are voting for the people behind these services. The ones who need help, the ones who are healing, and the ones still waiting to find it.

6 days until Election Day. Early voting is open.

Sarah lost her husband to addiction in 2016. Now she works in sober living, making sure no one has to struggle alone. She knows from her own recovery what it means when someone finally sees you and tells you that you are worth something.

"We can't live a life without struggling sometimes. And when we have these services, we always know the way back."

70 to 80% of kids who receive mental health services access them in school. That is why school-based programs matter.
The Washington County Behavioral Health Board supports counselors in 5 school districts, serving more than 200 kids. The levy also helps support programs like:

• Trauma-informed schools, helping staff understand how trauma affects learning.
• Handle with Care, alerting teachers when a child experiences trauma.
• The PAX Good Behavior Game, building self-regulation and social skills.
• REACH Youth Day Treatment, providing more intensive support for youth ages 10 to 17.

These programs reach kids where they already are, giving them a better chance to heal and thrive. This is one of the programs your levy helps keep going.

Not every service happens in a clinic or a classroom. Some of the most important work happens through community organizations that meet people where they are.

Your levy helps support a network of these organizations across Washington County:

• The Right Path: promotes healthy youth development and works to prevent substance abuse among young people in our county.
• House of Hope: a peer-run recovery center in Marietta for adults living with severe mental illness, offering peer support and a community that understands.
• Su***de Awareness Alliance: increases awareness of the impact of su***de in Washington County and provides information, resources, and community events like A Walk to Remember and a Candle Light Vigil.
• Prevention Programs in Schools: education programs like "Too Good for Drugs, Too Good for Violence" that help prevent teen dating violence, sexual assault, and substance use.
• NAMI Connection: free monthly support groups for adults living with mental illness, led by people who are in recovery themselves.
• Family to Family Educational Program: a free 12-week class series that helps families understand and support a loved one with mental illness.

Each one is different, but they all share the same goal. No one in Washington County should have to face mental illness, addiction, or recovery alone. This is what your levy helps keep going.

This levy is not just about one service. It is about a whole system of care that meets people at every point in their journey.

Here is what your levy supports across Washington County:

• Mental health treatment and support: counseling, therapy, and psychiatric care for adults and kids, so people get help before a challenge becomes a crisis.
• Substance use prevention and treatment: outpatient programs and recovery support, so people rebuilding their lives have a real path forward.
• Crisis response and emergency support: crisis services and teams that meet people where they are, in their hardest moment, and connect them to care instead of leaving them alone.
• Prevention and education: school-based programs, Mental Health First Aid training, and youth prevention, so we reach people early, before pain turns into something bigger.
• Recovery and ongoing support: recovery housing, peer support, and help re-entering family, work, and community, because recovery is not a single moment, it is a journey.
• Workforce training and development: training and peer recovery support, so people in recovery can rebuild their lives and contribute to our community.
• Financial assistance for treatment: help for residents who are uninsured or underinsured, so cost is not the thing that keeps someone from getting care.

This is a system that works because all these pieces are connected. One service leads to the next. A person in crisis gets connected to treatment. Treatment leads to recovery. Recovery leads to a stable life, a job, a family back together.

That is what a yes vote keeps going. Help available close to home, at every step.

💚 **DID YOU KNOW?** 💚

Washington County is part of NAMI Southeast Ohio, helping connect individuals and families with mental health support, education, and resources right here in our community!

Our recent participation in the **NAMI Walk in Athens** was a great reminder of the importance of coming together, raising awareness, and letting others know they are not alone in their mental health journey. 💚

Did you know Washington County currently has several NAMI support opportunities available?

💚 **Family-to-Family** support groups for family members and loved ones supporting someone living with a mental health condition.

💚 **In-person Connections** support group for individuals with lived experience to connect with others who understand.

💚 **Virtual Connections** virtual attendance support group for individuals with lived experience to connect with others who understand

Whether you are looking for support for yourself or someone you care about, you can connect with people who understand.

📅 **Want to learn more?** Check out the NAMI Southeast Ohio calendar for upcoming support groups, meetings, and events:

Let's keep spreading awareness, breaking down stigma, and reminding our community that **mental health matters, and no one has to walk this journey alone.** 💚

Someone you know relies on these services.

That might sound like an exaggeration, but it is not. 1 in 5 adults lives with a mental health condition. 1 in 12 has a substance use disorder. 1 in 6 children has a treatable mental health condition.

Think about your circle. Your family. Your coworkers. The parents at your kid's school. The people you see at church, at the grocery store, at the gas pump. Someone in that group is struggling right now, or has struggled, or will struggle. And most of them are doing it quietly.

When help is available close to home, the whole community benefits. The person who gets treatment before they lose their job. The family that stays together because they got support. The kid who has a counselor at school because someone noticed. The neighbor who found recovery and is now back at work, back with their family, back in the community.

This levy is not about someone else's problem. It is about all of us. Because behind every service is a person, and that person might be someone you love.

Geoff was painting a mural downtown when a man who had not received mental health treatment aimed a gun at him. The Behavioral Health Board helped him find the support he needed after that trauma. Now he says his life is better than it would have been had it never happened.
