When this system becomes unbalanced and under a lot of stress the gut tends to be the first to struggle, showing up as constipation. The vagus nerve and parasympathetic (rest and digest response) plays a huge part in healthy digestion. 🚨PSA: kiddos don’t grow out of colic, constipation, they grow into sensory, constantly sick challenging toddlers, then grow into sensory, spectrum, hyperactive emotionally stuck child then grow into anxious angry depressed teens finally growing into burnt out, stressed out anxious ADHD adults. 😣

See the thing is in each phase of life where the nervous system is crying for help and your gut is telling you there is something more at play…we are told we will grow out of it by the next phase of life. But that isn’t the case we grow into a new struggle or challenge. 🪫😩

This is called the perfect storm: a series of stressors and sickness that lead to neurological dysregulation 🌪️

These were some of my huge takeaways and grounding moments this weekend at the Pediatric Experience Club Leader Training.🦬🩵

1. Staying focused on world class chiropractic care and clinical results - staying committed to ALL IN learning, studying, and mastering the craft of pediatric and family chiropractic.🙌

2. Sequence is EVERYTHING - the right intervention in the wrong order will fail. That is why we start with the nervous system as the foundation and build off of it once it is restored. 🧱🏡

3. Healing happens in 3 neurological stages - release, rebuild/reorganize and restoration and when this nervous system healing is happening it can look messy in the middle but lean in on communication and calling the shots early so mom understands that it can sometimes look worse before it gets better. 🌪️

4. This quote- “The nervous system is air traffic control for the entire body, controlling and coordinating every other system with in the body, the gut to the immune system to the motor system and more.” and that is why there is so much healing seen with neurologically focused chiropractic care. 🧠

This 3 minute test can tell you so much about your nervous system and vagus nerve! When your nervous system is stuck on fight or flight it runs out of gas and becomes exhausted. This happens because the nervous system isn’t able to “turn on” the vagus nerve to activate rest and digest response. Your nervous system should flow back and forth between sympathetic and parasympathetic modes depending on if a stressor is present or not. But subluxation in the nervous system can cause dysfunction and the nervous system becomes “stuck” on sympathetic mode and not activate rest mode. HRV (heart rate variability) tells you where your autonomic nervous system and vagus nerve is at. Whether it’s stuck in sympathetic, flight or fight mode, parasympathetic rest and digest mode, or on fight and flight mode so long it becomes exhausted or ideally dynamically flowing between the two! By getting your nervous system scanned and specifically HRV you are able to see if your vagus nerve is activated and your nervous system is able to go from a stress response and go back to rest once the stressor is over. To support your vagus nerve and autonomic nervous system the best way to do this is through nervous system chiropractic care! Getting regular adjustments remove subluxation causing the stress stuck on sympathetic mode and allowing the nervous system to regulate!

I encourage anyone in chiropractic school to shadow offices, intern, work part time! Learn and grow now so mistakes aren’t made when you are by yourself in practice!🩵
