Eating takes up 60-90 minutes of the day MAX.
What about the other 23 hours of the day?
How you spend your time affects your appetite, willpower, energy, and whether you’ll stick to your nutrition plan or not.
I used to finish eating by 5pm when I was dieting - bored out of my mind for the rest of the night because eating was my only entertainment + joy.
I’d white knuckle every moment until bedtime, and food would be the first thing I’d think of when I’d wake up in the morning.
Back when WW was doing zero point fruits, I’d sometimes eat 2 grapefruits at night and wonder why I wasn’t losing weight.
I felt so confused, defeated, & disheartened that I was doing everything “perfectly”, all my attention on the food I was eating, with no progress even after months.
I didn’t realize that I wasn’t working with my brain the way it needed, and yeah, it needs to be worked + kept entertained!
It’s important that we do activities early in the day that take effort, that we get good dopamine from (you know, that good feeling you get after you exercise or finish your to-do list). This looks like movement, a block of work, a task - something that you have to work for.
This settles your baseline of dopamine, where you’re better able to practice restraint, discipline, and make better choices.
If you start your day off with getting dopamine with no effort, your brain will learn it doesn’t have to work for the good feeling, and it’s gonna want more.
This is when we often fall into the trap of ONLY relying on food + eating to give us those feel good chemicals… so of course you’re gonna blow through food quickly and be bored the rest of the day.
Staying engaged in other things like nature, going outside, books, podcasts, activities, things you look forward to + get fulfillment from is essential.
If food has been your #1 joy, this is gonna be a journey, but once you find yourself calmer between meals, with less food noise, and finally losing the weight you’ve been wanting to lose for 5-10 years, it’ll be worth it.
Plan, prepare, and enjoy every moment of
