Memorial Day weekend is more than just barbecues, parties, and an extra day off. 🇺🇸

It’s about remembering the men and women who came before us and sacrificed everything so we could live free and pursue the opportunities we have today.

Serving in both law enforcement and the military taught me what “service before self” truly means. Sacrifice isn’t just words — it’s commitment, discipline, and standing for something bigger than yourself.

At Mantis Strategic Defense, many of our cadre and representatives have served through the United States Marines, United States Air Force, law enforcement, recon, medical, and support roles. Even after the uniform comes off, service continues through mentorship, training, leadership, and giving back to the community.

I’ve also had the privilege of helping mentor Michael as he grew up — challenging him, competing alongside him, and watching him understand the importance of sacrifice, discipline, and service to others.

This weekend, enjoy your family and enjoy your freedom — but never forget why we have it.

Today’s Red Dot Fundamentals private class focused on building real understanding of confirmation levels and how our sight picture changes based on target size, distance, and urgency.

One of the biggest lessons shooters learned today is that not every target requires the same level of visual confirmation. Open attack targets at close range allow us to trust our presentation, predict our dot placement, and drive rounds confidently and aggressively — not carelessly, but with understanding and accountability.

As targets become smaller or distances increase, our level of confirmation must also increase. The farther the target, the more disciplined we become with confirming dot placement before breaking the shot. Speed without accountability is useless.

Today’s featured drill was the “Flying V.”• Front targets at roughly 5 yards• Steel positioned at 10 yards• Rear targets at 15 yards

This progression forces shooters to transition from predictive shooting at close distances into visual confirmation and disciplined dot tracking as the distance increases. At 15 yards, shooters can no longer simply sling rounds and hope for success — they must react to what the dot is actually telling them.

The red dot exposes inefficiency quickly, but it also rewards consistency, target focus, and confidence. Watching students develop trust in the dot while understanding when to speed up and when to slow down is where real growth happens.

MANTIS STRATEGIC DEFENSE LLC® is proud to host a premier 3-Day Training Event with Achilles Heel Tactical featuring renowned instructor David Acosta coming to Southern Oregon.

In partnership with the Medford Police Department, this training will be able to reach statewide for opportunities for law enforcement, military, and qualified armed professionals looking to sharpen their performance under pressure.

Combatives: Fighting with Knives & Guns
Integrated weapons combatives focused on close-quarter engagements, weapon retention, edged weapon applications, and survivability under stress.

💥 Cost: $400 Per Class

Day Two of our DPSST Armed Security course is officially wrapped up at Mantis Strategic Defense LLC®.

Today focused heavily on classroom instruction, accountability, mindset, legal considerations, and building the foundational knowledge every armed officer needs before stepping onto the range. Tomorrow, our students transition into an 8-hour live fire training day where they’ll work to knock the rust off, sharpen their fundamentals, and develop new techniques designed to increase performance, confidence, and accountability behind the firearm.

Our goal is not just to help officers pass the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training Armed Security Qualification Course — it’s to build safer, more capable professionals who understand performance on demand when it matters most.

We also want to thank Aaron Kimling for attending this course and speaking with our officers about the importance of legal protection and self-defense representation outside of work. His discussion covered protecting yourself and your family both inside and outside the home, and why having proper coverage and education matters long before a critical incident ever occurs.

At the end of the day, training doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off.
